TTMC Vertical Multistage Can Pump HPI-Application

The Heart of Your Process

APPLICATION FOR TTMC VERTICAL PUMPS

TTMC Vertical Can Pumps are primarily designed for plants handling liquids with low suction heads. These low NPSH values normally preclude the use of horizontal pumps. TTMC pumps are therefore designed for pumping clean or slightly polluted, hot or cold, chemically neutral or aggressive liquids in refineries in chemical and petrochemical plants in power plants in cryogenic applications in pipelines in the offshore industry Various design options are available for special applications. TTMC pumps fitted with a can are mainly used where there is low NPSHA. Where the TTMC is used without a can (type TMC) the pump is installed at floor level and the suction pipe connected direct to the pump inlet. Where space is at a premium the TTMC compact may be used. A pump of minimum length (minimum number of stages) is mounted in a support frame. Connections are being made directly to suction and discharge The in-line design allows simple pipe connection and requires minimum space. Vertical pumps are especially suitable for cryogenic applications pumping liquefied gases. The TTMCM is the first pump in the world to have a magnetic axial thrust bearing to support the rotor. The pump requires no auxiliary systems thus minimising maintenance and promoting automatic field operation. The can is mounted in the ground, its length providing the additional NPSH value required to prevent cavitation at the suction impeller. nozzles. Another variant is the TTMCM, this magnetically coupled design is suitable for hydrocarbons, liquefied gases and toxic fluids where an expensive mechanical seal system is the only alternative to the safer sealless design.

TTMC PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

TTMC pumps are multi-stage, radially split, vertical can pumps with stage casings. Single suction radial impellers are used, the suction impeller always being the first stage. Inducers may also be fitted. The shaft is sealed by single or tandem Several hydraulic sets for each pump size are available most of which are also used in our horizontal multistage ring section and barrel pumps. Pump design ensures that the can is only subject to suction pressure, installation depth and length of the can depend on NPSH conditions. Axial thrust is compensated for by a balance piston, the residual axial thrust is absorbed by double angular contact ball bearings. The bearings are installed in the motor support lantern and are oil lubricated by a rotation independent automatic lubrication device which produces positive oil circulation. Flanges are supplied according to ANSI or DIN specifications. The pump is driven by a vertical flange motor via a flexible coupling. Direction of the flow rotation is anti-clockwise seen from the driven end. mechanical seals complying with API 682 together with any necessary auxiliary systems that may be needed. Suction and discharge nozzles are arranged in-line above the mounting flange. Alternative nozzle positions are available if required. A hydrodynamic radial plain bearing is installed in the second stage of the pump. Depending on the can length an intermediate product lubricated support bearing may also be fitted.

BEARINGS, INTERMEDIATE COUPLING

Thrust Bearing Lubrication The thrust bearing consists of two angular contact ball bearings loaded such that their life exceeds the minimum requirements of API 610. Safe Oil Lubrication The bearing sleeve is equipped at its lower end with a rotation independent pumping device, oil is pumped to a level above the bearing where it is allowed to flow through the bearing returning to the sump. without risk of foam entrapment. This arrangement ensures a constant supply of clean oil to the bearing

Intermediate Coupling for Separate Shafts Depending on the can length, operating speed and pump size two shafts may be required. Where this is the case a rigid SKF OK type coupling is used. Working Principle of the Coupling The coupling consists of a thin internal sleeve which is slightly tapered and fits within a larger external sleeve whose bore is also slightly tapered. Injecting oil between the two sleeves by means of a small hand pump forces the outer sleeve over the internal sleeve resulting in the tapers locking together.

ADVANTAGES
h Lowered suction impeller allows operation even under extreme surface conditions. h Only one shaft seal. h Compact space requirement through vertical design. h No static seals under discharge pressure to atmosphere. h Shaft seal operates at suction pressure. h Balance piston also acts as a hydrodynamic radial bearing. h Oil lubricated anti-friction bearings. h Rotation independent internal oil circulation. h Hydrodynamic radial bearing located at the pumps second stage. h Precisely aligned shaft due to hydraulically shrunk coupling.

DESIGN OPTIONS
TTMC Standard design with can The length of the can will be calculated in such a way to produce sufficient suction pressure for the impeller first stage, thus preventing cavitation. Special design without can For vertical installation with small space consumption in an existing pipework. TMC

TTMC compact Compact design with can An overfloor installation is only possible, if there is enough NPSHA at the suction side. Sealless version
