Important Safeguards
When using electrical appliances, in order to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, basic safety precautions should always be followed, including:

To disconnect the heater, set controls to OFF then remove the plug from the outlet. Do not insert or allow foreign objects to enter any ventilation or exhaust opening as this may cause an electric shock, fire or could damage the heater. This heater has hot electrical parts inside. DO NOT use it in areas where gasoline, paint or flammable liquids are used or stored. Use the heater only as described in this booklet. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock or injury to persons. Fully remove the power cord from the cord tidy before use. Always uncoil the power cord before applying power. This product must always be used AND STORED in the upright position. The heater must not be located immediately below a socket outlet. COMPULSORY WARNING This heater is filled with a precise quantity of oil. Repairs requiring the opening of the oil container are only to be conducted by the manufacturer or a qualified service agent who should be contacted if there is an oil leakage. Disposal of the oil should be in accordance with local regulations. You should contact your local council to determine the correct procedure. If the supply cord is damaged it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent or a similarly qualified person to avoid a hazard. This product has not been designed for any uses other than those specified in this booklet.

For Your Safety

Read all instructions carefully, even if you feel you are quite familiar with the appliance. This heater is hot when in use. To avoid burns, do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces. Let the heater cool before moving. Keep combustible materials such as furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes and curtains at least 30cm from sides of the heater. Do not drape laundry or any other items over the heater. The appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision. Young children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. Always unplug the heater when not in use. Do not operate any heater with a damaged cord or plug, or after the heater malfunctions, has been dropped or is damaged in any manner. Return the heater to an authorised service facility for examination. Do not use the heater outdoors. This heater is not intended for use in bathrooms, laundry areas or similar moist indoor locations. Never locate the heater where it may fall into a bathtub or other water container. Do not use this heater in the immediate surroundings of a bath, a shower or a swimming pool. Do not run the power cord under carpeting or cover the cord with throw rugs, runners or the like. Arrange the cord away from traffic areas and where it will not be tripped over. Do not place the cord over any part of the heater. Do not plug this heater into an extension lead, double adaptor or power board.

Your Mistral Oil Filled Column Heater

Congratulations on the purchase of your new Mistral Oil Filled Column Heater. Before first using your new Mistral appliance, it is most important that you read and follow the instructions in this use and care booklet, even if you feel you are quite familiar with this type of appliance. Your attention is drawn particularly to the section dealing with IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS. Find a place and keep this booklet handy for future reference. Your Mistral Column Heater is easy and safe to use. It has been designed to function quietly and safely under normal circumstances. Read all instructions to ensure safe and efficient use.

The diagram below shows how to securely attach the castors so that your Column Heater can easily be wheeled from room to room. Supplied are two U-bolts with two threaded ends and metal spacers. These have to be fitted together with one of the two wheel brackets. They are designed to prevent the fin and control panel from touching walls, etc. Ensure the feet are aligned horizontally and tighten the wing nuts. The wing nuts can be securely tightened without the use of a tool. This is the only time that you should ever turn the Column Heater on its side or upside-down. After attaching the castors wait 15 minutes for the oil in each column to settle back into position.

Heating
The columns or fins that are joined together to form this heater are filled with a special oil that conducts heat to the metal surfaces. These in turn warm the air around them which gently and silently heats the room. Be careful never to damage or puncture the columns because they work under pressure as the oil inside heats up. Like any electrical appliance, this product may cause injury or damage property if used whilst damaged.

Castors
Oil heaters are heavy, which is why castors are supplied with this product. To reduce packaging, they have been placed unassembled in the carton.

Low, Medium, High Heat Settings

Set both switches to ON and turn the thermostat to position 6 when first applying power. This will set the column heater to HI, producing the maximum amount of heat possible and will reduce the amount of time it takes to initially warm up the room. As the room warms up, you may wish to decrease the heat level or simply maintain a comfortable room temperature. To do this, turn the thermostat down to a lower number. The heater will cycle on and off to maintain the desired room temperature. Turn one of the heat switches OFF to conserve power. This will set the heat elements to low or medium, but increase the amount of time it takes to reheat. On really cold days this may not be practical, as heat losses can exceed the heat generated by your column heater. Larger rooms and open space areas may also find the medium heat setting ineffective. You will need to experiment with this column heater to establish the exact setting required for any particular room or space. The table shows power consumption for all switching combinations.

For storage purposes, gently push the folded cord into the cord tidy as illustrated below.

For Electric Timer Models

A 24 hour timer is built into the control panel, which overrides the heat switches and thermostat. If you do not wish to use the timer function you MUST push all of the white time segments towards the centre. The timers rotating face acts like a 24 hour clock. The number 12 is 12 PM Noon and the number 24 represents 12 AM Midnight. To set the correct time, rotate the clock face clockwise, until the correct time is aligned with the indicator arrow at the top. For times when you wish the heater to switch ON, push the corresponding segment towards the centre. Each segment represents around 15 minutes, so if you want the heater continuously ON for 2 hours, push 8 segments towards the centre face. The clock face turns CLOCKWISE ONLY. Forcing the clock face in the other direction will destroy timing gears and void the product warranty. When power is switched OFF or during a power failure, the timer will stop functioning. The correct time must be reset when power is restored.

The timer here is set to switch on at 6.00 pm and switch off at 9.00 pm.

The benefits conferred by this warranty are in addition to all implied warranties, other rights and remedies in respect of the product which the consumer has under the Trade Practices Act and similar State and Territory Laws. The original purchaser of this MISTRAL product is provided with the following warranty subject to the following conditions. Mistral International Pty Ltd warrant this product for a period of 2 years from the date of purchase for all parts defective in workmanship or materials. This appliance must not be modified or changed in any way. 3. Connection must be to the voltage requirements as specified in the ratings label located on the product. 4.
