As the pioneer of virtual HBA and CNA technology, Emulex supports up to three times the number of virtual machines (VMs) than the nearest competitor. By virtualizing the adapter, each VM thinks it has its own physical adapter or mezzanine card supporting VM resources and bandwidth required for server virtualization. Higher performanceSuperior dual-channel scaling and CPU utilization efficiency are just two of the ways that Emulex addresses peak performance. HP ProLiant customers achieve greater total IOPS (+37%), superior second-channel scalability (+127%), and higher throughput (+78%) with the MSI-X for all 8Gb products. Technology: Features Single driver architectureOne driver, by operating system and protocol, will support all Emulex adapters regardless of generation (10GbE FCoE, 8Gb/s, 4Gb/s or 2Gb/s Fibre Channel), bus architecture (PCI, PCI-X or PCIe), or form factor (HBA, CNA or c-Class mezzanine card). 10GbE Network Convergence HP 10Gb Ethernet adapters support innovative Flex-10 technologies. Storage connectivity options include both iSCSI and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) with high-performance protocol offloads. Simplified managementEmulex OneCommand Manager provides in-depth management and diagnostic capabilities for HP-branded 8Gb/s and 4Gb/s Fibre Channel HBAs, mezzanine cards, and the HP 10Gb Ethernet adapters and HP FlexFabric Adapters. HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM 5.1 and higher) customers benefit by being able to launch OneCommand Manager without exiting SIM. For the HP 10GbE adapters (HP NC550m, HP NC552m, HP NC550SFP and NC552SFP), SmartStart is used for installation of the drivers and software maintenance along with native operating system device management utilities. Hardware-bound parameter settings Adapter parameters and settings are saved on the boot device versus the server. This is particularly beneficial in BladeSystem and other HP boot-from-SAN environments. N_Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) support (virtual HBA)Emulex technology generates virtual World Wide Names (WWNs) in VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V and Citrix XenServer environments. HP customers can implement SAN best practices in virtualized server environments.
