FOREWORD 1. This standard, which provides a schedule of equipment for medical and dsntal facilities, cancels and s~ersedcs IUL-STD-1691D of 3 September 1985. 2. The application information contained in this standard shall be applied in military construction budgets and may be used to identify equipment for construction and renovation planning not included in a military construction budget. 3. All bufIt-in casework shall be fabricated and designated in accordance with Military Specification MIL-c-20709 (latest edition). All other casework shall be designated, specified, snd installed in accord.ertce with MILqPEC MIL-C-29240 Casework - Moveable and Modular for Hospital Laboratories and Pharmacies, KIISPEC KIL-C-29241 Material Handling Units for Hedical Facilities, MIISPEC HIL-F-28687 Frame, Mobile, Hospital Laboratories and Pharmacies, Military Guide Spec 11704, and other specifications as directed by tbe design agency. 4. The Joint Schedule Numbers (JSN) or the National Stock Numbers, within the MIL-SID 1691, shall not be used AS substitutes for contract specifications and detail drawings. Citing JSN nunbsrs and nomenclatures will not relieve the architect or design agency of the responsibility to verify and provide all necessary detail drawings and specifications showing actual dimensions, utility connections, accessories, quantity, quality, and performance required.

1.1 $coue and Purnose~ This standard establishes a definite &marcation between the.various elements involved in the planning, funding, constructing, and equipping of the msdical and dsntal facilities of the Armed Services, and other us%ng agencies USPHS, Dept of Veteran Affairs. This standard provides a uniform basis upon which the Medical Services can idsntify Items of conscruetion and material and fix logistical and fi-f.al responsibility thereof in an identical manner. 1.2 This standard shall be applied to the architectural, cat%n~ financial and logistic planning, construction, and equipping of all msdical and &ntal facilities included in the military and other using agency budgets for madical construction appropriation funds, other procurement (investment equipment) organizational mtifntenancefunds, and departmental operation funds of the using service or agency. 2. DEFINITIONS

2.1 @neral. As used in this standard for the schedule of items, che following definitions pertain to: (a) Fixed fastened to walls, floors or ceiling, or to steam, gas, plumbing, electrical power, sensor lines in a permanent manner.

(b) Portable - movable, including that equipment which is attached to utility lines by attachment plug, screw-on fitting, or quick discomect fittings, and that which is of such size and use that special consideration must be given to its location. (c) Mobile equipment on wheels or casters.

d 2.2 .Srheule Terms. Terms used in the column headings and body of the schedule are dafined as follows: JsN ---------- Jolnt Schedule Number. MIL-STD-1691E 4. 4.1 SUPPLSUENTAL INFORMATION SJS nstructions

(a) Where reference to a specification is inclu&d in a JSN ttem description, items ldsntified as A in wT. column of (Appendices A through C) shall be procured against the latest authorized specification or purchase description. Dssign agents and contractors (Architect and Engineers) shall assure that current specifications and their latest amendments or purcbs.se&scription shall be used In the procurement of equipment supplied by the construction contractor. (b) The using se~ice/agency shall be required to furnish information and participate in review of shop drawings and inspectiomc prior to acceptance of technical equipment. Inquires shall be addressed to the appropriate authority. (c) Quality and type of equipment and furniture, e.g., stainless steel, steel, wood, gas fired, or electric, shall be determined by the using se~ice/agency in each instance, based on ths intendsd life and mission of the facility and the location and circumstance under which construction is to be accomplished. (d) When design and space limitations nacessftate substitution of equipment in the preparation of drawings, these substitutions shall be coordinated with and approved by tbe using service/agency.

(a) Not all items listed in this standard necessarily apply to all construction projects. It is improbable that any project will include all items. Items appearing on project equipment schedules that are not listed in this standard shall be assigned a number with a suffix code indicating a provisional or interim schedule number shall be coordinated with and apprOved by the using service. It is not mandstory that every item which aPPliee tO a sPecific prOject be listed in this standard. (b) Expendable supplies, hand tools, and accessories have not been Included in the standard. (c) Unless otherwise specifically noted dimensions indicated mean: Height - Outsi& dimensions bottom to top or floor to top, not including sloping tops or counter tops. Width - Outside dimensions end to end across front. Depth - Outside dimensions from frent to back. (d) All dimensions are approximate since they vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.
