IBM Rational Application Developer v6.

0 installation steps

Step 1: Start the installation by clicking the extractor.exe file

Step 2: Follow the screen shots below to create installation image


Step 3: Select the first two options which are required and click ‘Next’
Step 4: The installation image will be created. This may take around 20 minutes
depending upon the system
Step 5: Once this is complete choose to install RAD and click ‘Finish’
Step 6: Launchpad opens up automatically. Click ‘Install IBM Rational Application’, first
option.
Step 7: Now the installation of RAD takes place
Step 8: Choose to accept the license terms and click ‘Next’

Step 9: Give the directory path and click ‘Next’


Step 10: Select the required features and click ‘Next’
Step 11: The wizard gives the summary information. View it and click ‘Next’ to continue
installing.
Step 12: RAD gets installed
Step 13: Next the installation of WAS v6.0 Integrated Test Environment takes place
Step 14: This will automatically initialize Eclipse. This may take around 20-30 mins.

Step 15: This will complete the installation process. Click ‘Finish’ when it prompts and
exit.
Applying Fixes
Updating Rational Product Updater (FixPack 6.0.1)

Step 1: You must install IBM Rational Product Updater 6.0.1, available at
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/updater/60/zips/rpu_601.zip.

Download this fix pack and extract the file rpu_601.zip to a temporary dir

Step 2: Create policy.xml file

To create the policy.xml file, complete the following steps:

1. Navigate to <temp_dir>\rpu\, where <temp_dir> is the location of the extracted update.


2. Open policy_601.xml in a text editor.
3. Edit the file to point to where you extracted the update. For example, if you extracted the
update to C:\temp, your modified file will be similar to the following example:

<url-map pattern="com.ibm.orca.product.updater"
url="file:///C:/temp/rpu/60/update/site_601.xml"/>
</update-policy>

4. Save the updated file as policy.xml. Keep the original policy_601.xml file as a
reference.
5. Close your text editor.

Step 3: Start Rational Product Updater


Start>programs>IBM Rational>Rational Product Updater

Step 4: Click Preferences>Update Sites

Step 5: Navigate to policy.xml file

Step 6: Click OK

Step 7: Click Find Updates

The Rational Product Updater will prompt you that it requires an update, and you are
prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. The Rational Product Updater
installs the update and restarts.

Step 8: Close the Rational Product Updater.


Updating Rational Application Developer – (FixPack 6.0.1.1)

Step 1: Download this fix pack from

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rad/60/zips/rad60_6011.zip

and extract it to a temporary dir

Step 2: Start Rational Product Updater


Start>programs>IBM Rational>Rational Product Updater

Step 3: Click Preferences>Update Sites

Step 4: Navigate to \rad\policy_60_6011.xml file

Step 5: Click OK

Step 6: Click Find Updates

The system finds the updates and displays it in the Updates tab

Step 7: Select IBM Rational Application Developer 6.0.1.1

Step 8: Click Install Updates

Step 9: Accept the license agreement and click OK

Installation may take around 30-40 min depending upon the system

Step 10: After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed
updates on the Installed Products page.

Step 11: Close Rational Product Updater.


Updating Websphere Application Server v6.0 Integrated Test
Environment (v6.0.2.5)

Step 1: Download the fixpack from the site

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/rad/60/zips/rad60_WAS6025_win32.zip

and extract it to a temp dir

Step 2: Start Rational Product Updater


Start>programs>IBM Rational>Rational Product Updater

Step 3: Click Preferences>Update Sites

Step 4: Navigate to \rad\policy_WAS6025.xml file

Step 5: Click OK

Step 6: Click Find Optional Features

Step 7: Select IBM WebSphere Application Server V6.0 Test Environment Update
(V6.0.2.5).

Step 8: Click Install Features.

Step 9: To accept the license agreement and continue the installation, click OK.

Step 10: After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed
updates on the Installed Products page.

Step 11: Close Rational Product Updater.
