“To provide Goans and their friends an enjoyable and a relaxing time without the
need for formal membership. In doing this, we will showcase our cultural activities
and also learn and integrate with the multicultural society of Melbourne”.

From the editor’s desk…

Mogal Goencarano,
How quick does time fly! It feels like it was just a few months ago, but it is already a year,
and we are back in good old August—our favourite month when Goans all over the world
get together to celebrate World Goa Day.

Its been five years since it all began here in Melbourne. And with each passing year,
World Goa Day has been growing in leaps and bounds. And the success story of this
great event is all due to the like mindedness of our beloved Goans, who just want to be
Goan, having fun and meeting friends new and old on that day. I remember the first
World Goa Day here in Melbourne: I was too late and had to be disappointed as I could
not get tickets, the function being sold out! And that is how I made friends with Oscar
Lobo. He was kind enough to take my details and get in touch with me the next year.
And the year after that, I just could not say no to joining the team that makes the day!

Well that’s how it has been. So good to see our fellow Goans get together forgetting their
differences, club and association affiliations, and for the day, making merry. And that is
what it is all about! Unity. Each year I have managed to make new friends on the day,
and I am sure that has been the case with everyone else who was present on the day.
This year will be no different, and I am looking forward to meeting new people, and
catching up with old friends. Last year I was lucky to meet one of my old class mates from
school after almost thirty years!!!

So friends, get set for the great event of the year. This year there will be two special
dance presentations on the night. One is a traditional Goan harvest dance, while the
other is a dance performance by some Aussie performers. What a great show of
integration that would be! The band is all fired up, and so are the caterers. They have
promised the best of music and the food on the night.

Let us join hands and work ourselves towards this big day. Five years this year, it is surely
going to be ‘the one to remember’. See you all there on the 25th of this month.

Salus Correia
From the rambling ‘Reddo’…!
The Goan political teatro has just begun its ‘dusro poddo’ and the disgusting
pollies are back at their games. What a disgrace these guys are to the ever
faithful Goan voters who have time and again given them an undeserving
‘second chance’. What about honour—its just non existent for now with
these clowns who want to take it upon themselves to govern our lovely land.
I just dread to think of what is going to happen in the five long years to
come.

And if we compare that scenario with the political scenario here in

Melbourne, what a huge difference!!! We have just seen our standing
Premier Steve Bracks step back from the top job, giving John Brumby the
chance he was waiting for some time now. No toppling, no moves. Just an
announcement and that was it. Imagine our Goan pollies trying to hold on to
their chairs forever, little by hook and more by crook!

Today I received a strange email that was making the rounds a few years
back, and I am sure many of you received it too. About Mars being closest
to earth this month etc etc. Well, as I have been doing of late, I googled
the first line of the message and got a link to the Australian Astronomical
Society, who have confirmed what I suspected: the message is a fake. Why
do something stupid and low like this? What a waste of time and internet
bandwidth. Imagine just half the recipients of the message reforwarding it
to all on their address books. No wonder the internet does run slow
nowadays—slower than we would hope it wouldn't!!!

Get ready friends: World Goa Day is around the corner. I am off to polish
my ‘festache moche’ and iron my shirt ready for the big night. I love these
functions—they make me feel I am back home in Goa. What a nostalgic trip
it turns out to be.

Till then, mog asundi... Recad sogleank!
