Equipping Gods People

And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; Ephesians 4:11-13 NKJV Pastors are busy people. Therere people to visit, the sick to be prayed for, people who need to hear the good news, sermons to prepare, administrative matters to attend to and of course, therere people who want to meet you, either for counseling or simply just to talk to you. Often there isnt enough time to do everything. However, pastors and other ministers are not only required to do the ministry but also to equip the saints for the work of ministry. Similarly, our Lords Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) highlights the importance of making disciples. This important role of the pastor is often sacrificed as a result of the tyranny

of the urgent, i.e. we are controlled by the urgent things so much so that we neglect to do the things that are important. The meaning of equipping in Ephesians 4:12 gives the idea of fitting or preparing fully or a making fit as we would adjust something in or on a person to make him perfect. The original King James Version translates the Greek word katartismo as perfecting, implying a process leading to consummation (perfection.) Hence the role of pastors and other five-fold ministries must include equipping their people until they become complete (perfect) for the work of the ministry. It includes the job of completing thoroughly someone, even repairing, adjusting so that that person is complete for the work of ministry. The pastor will have failed in his job if the full potential of his people are not realised and the people not ultilised for the work of the ministry. This cannot be achieved if the pastor were to do everything himself.

His Last Command... Our First Concern

Not only does this make common sense, it is also Gods way to build up the body of Christ so that the body becomes mature. The process of maturing takes place when people are serving, not when they are watching others serve. Jesus is a servant (he washed his disciples feet) and he declared as such (Hebrews 10:7). We are transformed into Christs image when we become a servant like Him (Rom 8:29.) The pastors role is to equip Gods people to serve. God is a servant in that He loves to meet peoples needs. Pastors and other ministers need to understand this. Gods calling for the pastor is not merely for him to do the work of service but for him to train his people so that the people themselves can find their own fulfillment in their The Bahasa version works out this way, untuk own work of service. memperlengkapi orang-orang kudus bagi pekerjaan pelayanan, bagi pembangunan tubuh Kristus, THE ROUTE The way to equip the saints is through training. I have been a Christian for almost 2 years but I had never shared the gospel to anyone of my non-Christian friends before as I didnt know how to share the gospel to them and was scared that I would be rejected by them. Its awesome that I can join XEE last semester. As finally I learned a powerful tool during my Connect Activities with my trainer, Jimmy to share gospel to my non-Christian friends. Jimmy taught me how to tackle any questions from my friends and how to answer their questions. I want to say a special thanks to my prayer partner, Yi Wen who always prayed for us before we went out for Connect Activities. I thank God as He has placed me in this XEE training, as every time my friends accepted Christ, I felt the joy inside my heart. Praise the Lord!

eaver as a word means someone who knits together something as in a piece of cloth, but what does it mean in terms of Evangelism? It is a new tool for Evangelism Weaving Good News Narratives into Personal Conversation. It is a tool using story-telling, an art that has long been available in many cultures. Many people are still being inspired and their lives transformed after hearing a story that touches their hearts. When EE of Glad Tidings, Petaling Jaya was planning to organize the Weaver training session, I was invited to be one of the committee members. I looked back with great pleasure of serving and assisting in organizing the Weavers Training Session. It is truly Gods divine appointment and timing! Though evangelism is my life style, I had been using the various tools which are often Scriptures based and after some time I find it difficult to progress further - especially to friends and relatives whom

LEARNING TO WEAVE
I met on a regular basis. After sometime I realized there seemed to be a strain in the relationship, and they tend to hear me out just to oblige me. Lately, I have been crying out to God for a way to reach out to those loved ones that dont like to read and the answer is through Weavers Training. Weavers Training includes personal devotion, prayer, demonstration and role-play in story telling and on-the job training (OJT) with trainers guidance. Through Weavers Training, I had learned another useful tool for Evangelism and have greatly taught me the use of true-life story telling to weave the Gospel story into our conversations in an unthreatening manner that will touch hearts and minds. Since stories are enjoyed by many, whether young, old, literate and non-literate alike, I was very encouraged!

His Last Command... Our First Concern

After some persuasions and encouragement, I joined the 5th semester of Evangelism Explosion @ Bangsar Gospel Centre in the second week. So I was given private tuition for what was covered in the 1st week of class. I thoroughly enjoyed the book E.E. by Dr D James Kennedy and found it hard to put the book down in the wee hours of the morning. I refer to this book every now and then. What was the most challenging in this course was memorizing the Gospel Outline which grew longer every week till it was a full page. Thank God my trainer told me to keep at it every day from the beginning. Then I prayed for memory power and also got my prayer partners to pray for me and God made it possible. On completion, it gives you a wonderful feeling of achievements and that special re-assurance of Gods power and love. I then enjoyed OJT, the fellowship of the 3 of us and the support of our prayer partners was amazing. Witnessing for Christ should be the way of life for a believer and I recommend the EE way it is so systematic and effective especially when we illustrated to drive home a point. I then rang up my friends to tell the good news and that I wanted to share it with them. Some responded well while others want some time to think about it. So I will continue to pray for them until something happens.

I thank God for this course. I also thank sister Bai Fang for asking me to take up this EE course. I had followed her to go out evangelizing to people around many times and I was just very amazed how gifted she was in sharing the Gospel to others. She always knew how to start the conversion and how to bring in the Good News. And she always had good illustrations. Now I know the secret: it was through EE training followed by a lot of practices. EE is a very systematic and good programme. It illustrates the full Gospel systematically, with very appropriate illustrations and Bible verses to confirm it. I was always doubtful whether I had shared the Gospel to others, or not, or how to share so that others can understand it. After taking the course, I realize that all this is because I myself do not have the knowledge or I am not sure myself. So now I am very sure of my own salvation. Through the practical sessions following the leaders to approach people and sharing, I am also more confident to share the Good News to others. EE is a course that all growing Christians MUST take. Anyone who takes up the course may need to sacrifice a lot of time to memorize all the steps, illustrations and verses required for sharing the whole Gospel, but I can assure you it is worth it.

Shalom!
