KONGSBERGs solution
KONGSBERG believes in cooperation with customers to ensure that use of our simulators will reflect real operations and maximise the time and money spent. Today, our range of simulators includes training solutions for e.g., navigation, anchor handling, crane and winch operations, DP, tugging, engine room and cargo & ballast handling. All our simulators provide high fidelity real-time simulation, supporting safe and cost-efficient training of offshore crew and system specialists. Trainees experience great realism through the use of physical modelling with true forces and collision detection. Faults and alarms have cascading effects throughout systems if not acknowledged properly. In addition to high levels of realism, KONGSBERG simulators offer user-friendliness and flexibility. These are key features for providing simulators suitable for competence training as well as studies, operation planning and verification of work procedures for ship owners, operators and training centres worldwide.

Maximum flexibility
The KONGSBERG Offshore Vessel Simulator allows modular design and is scalable from a PC desktop to a full mission ships bridge system. Several ships bridge simulators can be connected together to train ship-to-ship interaction as well as multi-vessel coordinated operations. The instructor system can be operated from one or several stations based on the training requirements, e.g., when running a training scenario with multiple vessels. KONGSBERG has developed a set of standard instrument panels and bridge equipment complete with controls and functions necessary to train operations such as tugging, towing, anchor handling and offshore supply. Customised solutions, such as individual bridge lay-out, configuration and integration to real ships bridge equipment are available. The offshore simulator includes power management and can be integrated with other KONGSBERG and third party simulators to allow crew to perform simulator training 1:1 with the real offshore vessel environment.
At our Kongsberg Offshore Vessel Simulator, our students have broken equipment worth almost 180 million US Dollars during the last 10 years. If we have prevented just 5% of these accidents from happening in real life, we still will have saved Maersk Supply Service millions and millions of dollars.

Winch Simulation
The KONGSBERG Offshore Vessel Simulator is equipped with winch controls and instruments, supporting training on offshore vessel winch operations. The winch operator can interact with the vessel master to increase skills for efficient and safe operations offshore.
Crane Simulation
The KONGSBERG Offshore Vessel Simulator offers the most efficient method of training crew and operators in the complex interaction between the ships bridge, platform crane operator and deck. The simulator can be configured in different ways and with different cranes, in order to satisfy various training goals: Stand-alone crane operator training for offshore crane operators, enabling training according to G-5, G-20 Integrated with the Offshore Vessel Simulator enabling simultaneous training scenarios such as: - Offshore vessel lifting operations involving bridge, deck crew and vessel-mounted crane operator. This scenario can be expanded to include interface with ROV (Remote Operated Vehicle) simulator to include training operations below water - Offshore Support Vessel (OSV) operations involving bridge, deck crew and platform crane operator, for training of materials handling between OSV and platform deck In offshore crane simulation, KONGSBERG builds on the cooperation with GlobalSim Inc., a 100% owned KONGSBERG company and the world leader in the development of sophisticated crane operator simulators. With the Master Lift Training System, GlobalSim provides the most advanced crane training simulator on the market. The simulators realistically replicate the operating characteristics of the actual equipment in a safe and reliable training platform. Master Lift allows operators to immediately apply classroom knowledge into real applications. The training experience prepares crane operators to be the most efficient in the industry.
Typical winch operator training exercises include: Operate winches during anchor handling operations Operate shark jaw, stop pins and guide pins Operate and monitor spooling device Towing of semisubmersible and jack-up drilling platforms Team training with vessel master, men on deck, rig winch and rig crane operator Respond to faults and emergency situations, e.g., line stuck on drum and emergency release
Tug Simulation
The KONGSBERG Offshore Vessel Simulator can be configured with one or several tug simulator control consoles to support a full range of tugboat operation exercises for tug masters and pilots. This gives the crew the possibility to conduct cost-efficient procedural training and safe mission rehearsal prior to complex operations. The tug simulation capabilities incorporate a comprehensive model of the tugs hull form, propulsion system, towline characteristics and winch arrangements. The motion and dynamics are completely synchronised to wave action and sea state, while the visual scene shows features and effects creating an impressive, realistic training environment. KONGSBERG also offers tug simulation by customising our POLARIS ships bridge simulator with the required tug control consoles, creating a complete tugboat simulator. This simulator can interact seamlessly with a large (full mission) ships bridge simulator, to support joint pilot/tug master training, e.g., emergency preparation and management scenarios. Typical tugboat training scenarios include: Coastal and offshore towing Multiple tug operations - assisting large ships High speed escort work Oil rig and platform move Search And Rescue (SAR) and emergency response Close quarters multi-tug manoeuvres Integrated tug master and pilot training Research prior to development of new port & terminal facilities
We offer highly realistic and safe tools for efficient training on critical operations

DP Manoeuvring Simulator
The DP Manoeuvring Simulator is a standard KONGSBERG DP system connected to either the KONGSBERG Offshore Vessel Simulator or the POLARIS Ships Bridge Simulator. Critical operations The simulator enables the students to perform DP operations in a highly realistic environment. The visual system and the Radar/ARPA and ECDIS systems, combined with a dual redundant DP configuration, will enable training on critical operations and DP assisted manoeuvring near offshore installations or in coastal waters. Reduce training time at sea KONGSBERGs DP Manoeuvring Simulator fulfils the Nautical Institutes DP training requirements and allows significant sea-time reduction in the Institutes training scheme for DP operator certification. The simulator provides the possibility to perform complete training of platform support, realistic offshore loading operations, emergency maneuvering to avoid collision and handling of vessels in narrow waters.
Simulator Training at Aalesund University College, Norway
Co-located with our KONGSBERG liquid cargo simulator, the KONGSBERG 2-DOF full mission ballast control room simulator and related five part-task desktop simulators have been in operation since 1994. The installed mathematical model of the semi-submersible mobile offshore drilling unit (MODU) forms part of our offshore training markets. With instructor control and full remote monitoring of the simulator, the system covers all ballast control room training requirements for our customers.
