Slip stitch

Transfer the embroidery stencil onto the right side of the outside fabric using the template provided for placement. Trace method: If your fabric is light colored you can transfer your stencil by placing it behind your fabric and tracing the design with a water-erasable pen. Stabilizer method: If your fabric is dark or too textured to work with one of the other methods, trace the stencil on a piece of watersoluable stabilizer and baste it to the front of your fabric. After you have completed the embroidery, follow the manufacturers directions to remove the stabilizer. Iron-on method: To transfer using an iron-on pencil, trace the design (either side of paper since the designs are symmetrical, if using a nonsymmetrical design, trace on the reverse side). Lay your stencil, pencil side down on your fabric and iron using heat only until pattern is transferred. Press down with the iron, do not slide the iron. Make sure to follow the manufactures directions for your iron-on pencil, as instructions may vary.

Follow the template and embroider the design of your choice. For the monogram design, freehand your initial or use the reverse alphabet template from Purl Bee. http://www.purlbee.com/storage/alphabet.pdf

Variation: Experiment with di erent colors and thicknesses of threads to personalize your deisgn.

Once your embroidery design is complete, iron interfacing to wrong side of outside fabric. Align the pattern with the embroidered end of the fabric and cut the curved edge. On both sides, measure and mark 14 (35.5cm) from the the straight end. Fold piece with right sides together until the bottom corners meet the marks. Pin and sew along the edges.

To create the closure loop, rst create binding tape using the 1.25x9.5 (28.5 cm x 24 cm) piece of inside fabric. With the wrong side of the fabric facing up, fold your strip in half lengthwise and press. Open up the strip and fold each lengthwise edge to the center crease and press. Fold at the center again to create your binding tape. Fold the binding tape in the middle as shown at right to create the closure loop. Pin the closure loop to the right side of the outside pieces, centered on the curve. Sew pieces together using 1/8 seam allowance.

Pin same size batting pieces to the wrong side of each inside fabric piece. Cut the curved edge by aligning the pattern with one of the 9.5 (24 cm) sides of the larger inside piece. To attach the batting to the fabric pieces, sew 1/8 (3 mm) around all sides of both inside fabric pieces.

Place pieces right sides together. Pin and sew together leaving a 3 (7.5 cm) gap along the bottom.

With the outside piece wrong side out, mark 1.5 (3.8 cm) along the bottom from the outside seam and 1.5 up from the bottom corner along the outside edge. Repeat for both corners. Open the piece and atten the corner to bring the marks together. The edge of the piece should be 1.5 from the center mark on both sides. Once you have this lined up correctly mark with a straight edge and sew. Trim corner. Repeat other side.

Repeat the steps to box the corners of the inside piece. Make sure to measure your markings from the seam, rather than the outer edge.

Place the inside piece right side out inside the outside piece, wrong side out. Pin and sew along open seams. Turn piece right side out through the bottom opening in the inside piece.

Use slipstitch to close bottom opening. Sew button. Enjoy!
