Net weaver BW7.3 Performance & Scalability

DSO Semantic Partitioning

1)DSOs & Info cubes can be semantically partitioned 2) You can Generate and Manage Semantically Partitioned Data Models with minimal effort 3) DTPs and Process chains are generated automatically

DSO Semantic Partitioning

Mahindra Satyam 2011

Net weaver BW7.3 Performance & Scalability

Step1- Define DSO Property: A wizard guides you through the steps for creating an SPO. First, define the property in standard Data Store objects & Choose "Maintain Partitions".

Mahindra Satyam 2011

Net weaver BW7.3 Performance & Scalability

Step2 Maintain Partitions - specify the characteristics that you want to use as partitioning criteria. You can select up to 5 characteristics. For this example, select "0REGION". The compounded Info Object "0COUNTRY" is automatically included in the selection

Net weaver BW7.3 Performance & Scalability

Data Store objects New Features
Partitioning of DSO is supported Remodeling for Data Store objects Activation is changed from single lookups to mass lookup of active table. Lookup is performance optimized by using mass read once per data package instead of record by record. Performance gain for the improved activation (lab results) Avg. 20 40% improvement, Max. improvement measured 2.5x faster Varies by data profile (# inserts/updates/deletes) and database platform

New rule-type for Transformations: Read from Data Store

Replaces custom ABAP code for lookups by efficient built-in lookup mechanism Activation using database specific SQL commands on mass data

Improvement measured (lab results): factor 2 3 times faster compared to standard activation
Mahindra Satyam 2011

15

Net weaver BW7.3 Performance & Scalability

Accelerated Master Data Loads
Load is changed from single lookups to mass lookup of master data table Runtime option New records only omits lookups during activation speeds up initial loads, e.g. requests which contains only new data Accelerated SID Handling by using an internal mass processing (with customizable threshold) Use of navigational attributes as source fields in the transformation avoids additional overhead for lookups Completely reengineered and performance optimized New capabilities like search-modes for the usage check, simulation-mode etc.

Net weaver BW7.3 Performance & Scalability

New Hierarchy Framework
Limitations of 3.x Hierarchy: 1. Hierarchy Data Sources were available only for flat file and SAP source systems 2.Second you could not take full advantage of the new data flow, even some old data flow features 3.Third, monitoring was often unclear because the framework was not optimal for segments. Added features in 7.3 - Hierarchies: 1. First you are able to use any BW object as source for a hierarchy, you are not limited to a Data Source for hierarchies 2. you are able to use all features of a transformation, for example start, end or expert routines. You are not limited as you were in the 3.x data flow.

Data Flow Copy Wizard
Scenario: We have already learned about a new tool which ease the work to create a BW Data flow. Now this tool is helpful when you need to create another dataflow which looks quite similar to the once you have already created. Only a target is different or data source is different or the source system is different or transformations are different.

Now if you want to copy the data flow, instead of Display Dataflow you need to use the option Copy Data flow.

Data Flow Copy Wizard - Continued..
System will ask you whether you want to collect also the process objects or only data model objects. The process objects are usually included in a process chain. As of now we will select no and proceed into the wizard

Useful information is displayed for every action you do here

Data Flow Copy Wizard - Source system copy

With Use original, the original object will be included into the copied data flow. By this, you can Add a new load branch to the existing data target Create a new data source for the same source system Load the same data source from another source system

Data Flow Migration Tool This tool will automatically migrate your Data flows from 3.x to 7.x versions with minimal manual effort

Workbench like UI for selecting data flows and objects to be migrated

Transfer rules & Update rules will be copied to Transformations In the Initial Info package data load option will be automatically changed to Only PSA as PSA is mandatory in 7.x Info packages are converted to DTP s Migration can be repeated/reversed as often as needed

Net weaver BW7.3 Additional Features

Enhanced Delta Functionalities

Generic Delta functionalities for other types of data sources

Possibility to derive a generic delta for DB Connect, UD Connect, flat file and web services. Automatic switch of Info package modes from Init to Delta load There is no need to define init and delta info packages anymore. If a Delta enable info package is started for the first time, it is executed as an initial load and then the later load is automatically changed to delta.

Mahindra Satyam 2011

52

Net weaver BW7.3 Additional Features

Additional Flexibility in Data flow modeling
Hierarchies Integration of Hierarchies into Process flow(DTP, Transformation) Loading Hierarchies from flat file using the new data source and Transformation technology Data Transfer process (DTP)

Data Transfer process supports data extraction from Multi providers

Option to only load the last request from a given source(available for full load DTPs)

Open Hub service Data can be exported into XML format Possibility to change the format and length of BW data for export Hierarchy extraction supported by Open Hub
Transformation Semantic grouping possible in transformation (in addition to DTPs) Possibility to select the info objects (fields) by user in start and end routines. Navigational attributes of info cubes/Data Store objects can be used as source fields in the Transformations and as filter options in the DTP
Mahindra Satyam 2011

53

Net weaver BW7.3 Additional Features

Before Export check Enhanced consistency check at the end of the releasing the transport including checks on dependent objects which are not directly included in the transport request to prevent import errors in the target system (due to missing metadata objects)

Mass change function for authorizations Option to select Multiple analysis authorization objects and do insert, copy, delete rows of value authorizations & hierarchy authorizations in the work list at the same time Adding users to Multiple Analysis Authorizations
Version Management for Metadata objects Manage historic versions of metadata (display, create, restore, compare, delete) Delete contents of table holding statistics Data RSDDSTAT_DATA_DELETE program is used to delete the contents of the statistics table RSDDSTATWHM which is growing over time with date filters

Mahindra Satyam 2011
