THE TECHNICAL CONTENT

LIVING CONDITIONS

Objectives
After the allotted time, the participants should be able to:
• keep clean and healthy eating habits and safe drinking water;
• maintain cleanliness in their surroundings, including their toilets;
• maintain the neatness and organization of their household;
• keep the health and safety of the whole family; and
• plan their livelihood and exhibit cooperation with their community.

Methodology
The trainer will present the exemplary practices demonstrating the simple, practical, and
low-cost means of improving life situations from other communities. Besides the
provided pictures, the trainer may provide other illustrations that will be more appropriate
for the participants.
To emphasize the importance of the practices illustrated in the pictures, a brief
explanation may be provided by the trainer based on his/her knowledge, skills,
experiences and research.
The trainer must be aware of the time allotment for each session to ensure that all topics
are covered and the other activities are not sacrificed. Time allotted for this session will
not exceed one (1) hour.

SESSION 1 : KEEP CLEAN AND HEALTHY EATING HABITS AND SAFE DRINKING

GUIDELINES IN HANDLING AND TRANSPORTING PESTICIDES

1. Use safe and appropriate containers.


2. Separate the pesticide from other materials to be transferred.
3. Check for damaged containers before, during and after transport to ensure that materials
and passage ways, especially near water sources are not contaminated.
4. Pesticide containers must not be carried through the worker’s shoulders or at the back of
farming animals.
5. Pesticide leaks must be addressed immediately to prevent further contamination and
poisoning. These spills must be completely decontaminated.
