Call to order: 5:07pm Approval of Agenda: Approved Executive Reports: Narek, Vice President a. Danielle OLennick working with Monica Santos Leadership Series September b. Jay Shohar working to get a debate between democratic and republican party and upcoming concert c. Tara working on back-to-school BBQ partnering with OSI i. Ask-me table for senate d. Jacob working on promotional items, new designs for water bottles and t-shirt designs

Senate Reports: Senator Nguyen a. Acting as ASWSUV parliamentary enforcer of parliamentary procedures b. Roberts Rules of Orders i. Governs Senate meeting proceedings c. Possibly put together a summarized packet to discuss at retreat i. A specific rule of order

New Business: Confirmation of Senate Position a. 3 candidates i. Jenna Connolly ii. Justin Johnson iii. Jonathan Lam b. 1st up for nomination: Jenna Connolly i. General information: Washougal high school ii. Wasnt in student government but friends were a part of it iii. Ideas: incoming freshman, new perspective, ways to get freshman involved in ASWSUV c. Questions from Senators i. Senator Johnston: What does leadership mean to you? 1. Someone who is able to be a role model for others in a positive influence and helps things get done in a way that helps everyone ii. Senator Nguyen: Not a lot of mention of responsibilities that senators hold, here to provide a service, could you comment on what your attitude would be regarding the responsibilities of the organization here? 1. Voice the opinions of the students and have their input put into thought of activities and other involvement in the school

Senator Valentine: Outgoing and enthusiastic, what would be an idea that you could bring to the senate, in a classroom or in passing, to other students; what would you do to get them more excited? i. Freshman roar, parents got information, however students didnt. providing the information to the students in the beginning iv. Senator Gepford: how did you hear about the senate? 1. Parents picked up the information for her. Senator Gepford: Request to move on to 2nd candidate. 2nd Candidate: Justin Johnson i. Senior as a marketing major ii. Applied to senate to look for a way to be involved in student government and help the students on campus iii. Like to get more involved with students iv. Work to help ASWSUV help the students Questions from Senators i. Senator Gepford: What makes you qualified to be on senate? 1. Enthusiastic about getting people involved 2. Rec center trips, gets many friends to go with him ii. Senator Nguyen: Been apart of many clubs and groups, please elaborate? 1. Ping pong club, put on ping pong, pool tournaments, FSC open house 2. This year, club council, a way to guide clubs and offer help and support, a way to offer cooperation between other clubs iii. Senator Carlson: Tell us more about big brother, big sister. 1. Meet with him once a week 2. Play sports, eat food, do things the child wants to do 3. Be a friend, mentor and brother Senator Gepford: on to 3rd candidate 3rd Candidate: Jonathan Lam i. Sociology major, senior ii. Involved in student activities iii. Vice president of social environment justice club, last year iv. This year, president v. Motivation: believes that the student body is at a critical point, many things happening making the educational experience more and more tenuous, rising tuition, would like to be involved in the process that helps to shape the educational experience that everyone at this campus has Senator Gepford: What ideas do you have to get more students to our events? 1. Much has to do with getting the information to the students, a key area would be reaching students in their classrooms 2. Petition last fall, to get more signatures was to go around to multiple classrooms and give a quick speech, much more encouraging than doing a flyer A-frames i. Senator Johnston: Sociology major, during finals week, reading out loud during the library? 1. Part of a study ii. Senator Nguyen: have seen him work. Recently part of a group orchestrating something in the administration building. Noted: made an

important move, easy to criticize, but hard to stand up. Important to represent Jonathon by the work that he has done. How do you pronounce your last name? k. Senator Gepford: Final Vote , 2nd, Johnston l. Senator Nguyen: Do we have the chance to have private conversation about the candidates up for debate? 1. Michelle: As long as no motion of VOTE is on the floor, we can debate 2. Normally, cannot do that 3. Recognitions: Senator Gepford: thank you to Senator Nguyen for buying Roberts Rules of orders 2. Michelle McIlvoy: Office of Student Involvement: i. Right now, office of student involvement working on new student orientation 1. Freshman orientation in august a. Student government can be involved in BBQ and freshman field day, blow up obstacle course and interact with students, August 17th, GET ENGAGED 2. The Week of Welcome a. The first week of school where there is a lot of different elements that go into showing new and old students theres many things that they can get involved in b. New t-shirts to show what youre apart of and show that you are available c. Student government to be engaged and take advantage to help promote resources 3. Excited to get to know many of you at the retreat next weekend Senator Johnston: Jenna Connolly does know about the retreat Narek: Move to recess until 6pm. Retreat August 5th-7th to Linfield College b. Leaving 9 or 10am on Friday and returning around 2 or 3pm on Sunday c. Responsibilities as a senate, as well as Narek as vp, Audrey as president and michelle as advisor d. Think about the committees you want to become a part of (finance, campus affairs, external affairs) i. If you sit on those committees, by default, can be on the budget committees ii. Understand those roles and if become chair of the committee, become a part of Roles and Procedures committee e. Retreat is the time to set senate meeting times f. Going over office hours and office expectations at retreat g. Food is provided, but confirm any dietary restrictions to Narek
