JMC Job Search Tips (Simple Things pt 81…)

Video Interviewing…
In better economic times, the interview was still important but in today’s more challenging
employment marketplace, it’s critical to nail it from every perspective. Stiff competition increases in
number every day and employers are well aware of the diversity and quality of talent available. One
of the most important and frequently overlooked aspects of the interview is non-verbal
communication or body language. While nearly all of us understand the need to sit up straight and
connect visually with the interviewer (mirroring), far too frequently we can be unaware of our
unconscious habits or movements. Sometimes these can be simple nervous tics but other times, it
can be a tendency to frown or scowl when concentrating or allowing a puzzled or perplexed look to
show that we’re unsure or confused (deer in the headlights, anyone?). The best way to prepare for
these possible trip-ups is to participate in a video interview and then unflinchingly critique your
performance from all angles. You’ll be glad you did…

Just Thinking…
