Proposed TitIe
An evaluative study into the effect of employers employing employees that are based
on the generation theory and if these choices were effective.
Topic - addressing purpose, reIevance and feasibiIity incIuded
Aims and Objectives
The aim of this research is to analyse the relationship between employers and their
employees and to conclude whether employers use the stigma or label of the
generations that has been created by the media to hire new employees. The
Generation Theory is a theory that shows values, trait s and characteristics and how
the generational differences are shown in their work.
Towards the end of this evaluation, it would like to benefit employers that are
seeking to hire new members into the workgroup assuming the values, traits and
characteristics are either beneficial or it is just a stigma and the member hired was
not as the employer assumed.
Background
According to Cox (2008), the subject of generational values was highly noticed by
employing managers and human resources. Cox concluded that in the workplace,
members of certain generation wants to work for satisfaction but each in their own
distinct approach and specific attitudes. This change in the workforces needs to be
catered especially when the environment is becoming more diverse with different
values and opinions due to the workplace containing employees from different
generation. n Cox's (2008) article, he labels the different generation and names the
different characteristics and approach towards their careers and their workplaces.

According to Chester (2002), he believes that workers from generation y should be

hired because youths are the ones being connected to your customers and he
quotes, ".your front line is the key to your bottom line". t is clear that we have many
conflicts as to which generation are to be hired but is it based on based and
hypocrisy or because the goal is to make money and hiring managers are just
striving for the best to make money. Many perspectives and many disagreement but
later on in the research proposal, the methods as to how we can prove if stereotypes
and stigma places a role in the decision making or the credentials on the curriculum
vitae is the deciding factor will give a viewpoint to how we can decipher and prove
this analysis.

$pecifics of your study

This research will involve high maintenance jobs such as retails stores and food
services. This will visually explain if the specifics traits, values and characteristics will
be shown. From this task, would like to research if employing future work members
based on the Generation Theory are beneficial to the workplace?, if employees in
the workplace prove the values, traits and characteristics that are in the Generation
Theory?, and if employers are becoming biased when hiring employees due to the
Generation Theory?.
The location shall be large major retail stores in different Westfields and Centros
from different suburbs. This prevents biased results from just one locality and to
reduce different variable, the major retail stores will be Kmart, Target, Myers, Big W
and Toys 'R' Us. These stores are selected because they have similar categories

within the department themselves and this will provide the understanding of whether
the knowledge of the workplace was assumed or vice versa. Furthermore, the
suburbs chosen are Bankstown, Burwood, CBD, Parramatta and Liverpool. These
suburbs are chosen for the reason that they are in different vicinities and to reduce
the information being biased due to being in the similar area.
$ignificance and Innovation
The significance of this research is to prove whether employers hire members into
their workforces based on their assumptions that the future employees hired
contains the values, traits and characteristics of the Generation Theory and will
benefit in performance and benefit to the company.
According to Coomes and Debard (2004), as the generation become more younger
and recent, the importance of respect and values and way of life begins to deplete,
especially with careers goals. Extracted from Serving the Millennial Generations
researched by Coomes and Debard(2004), Boomers builds a stellar career,
Generation X builds a portable career and Millennials (Generation Y) builds parallel
careers. But otherwise, each generation's loyal to institution is reversed from
Millennial being committed, Generation X being nave and Boomers to be cynical.
These assumptions may be proposed and finalised but the purpose of this study is to
prove whether these values, traits and characteristics appear in the workplace.
Furthermore, not long ago, a television show on Channel Ten, Talkin' Bout Your
Generation has bombarded out television sets of stereotypes and hypocrisy.
Approach - addressing ethics and objectivity
Ethics

The people this analysis will involve are managers and human resources team.
Ethics will involve presenting my credential and assure that it will be confidential,
when interviewing no names are mentioned unless consent agreement is signed and
furthermore, alternatives can be arranged to protect the subject, i.e. name changing
when reporting in the final report and/or report data as a whole. Unless with
permission, all non-consenting participants must be anonymous and consent forms
must be signed and include all the factors that will be posted data must be secured.
Provide as much contact as possible but enough not to stress them out or seem to
be an intrusion. Visit them at the workplace where security function are available,
during work time when they are free and try to minimise stress rather than
approaching them at home where both party can be of harm towards each other.
Approach
To approach to the subject of study will be utilized by a number of conducted survey
questions and interview questions. According to Denscombe (2009), research to
approach the subject with an open mind to prevent biased point of view and it was
easier for people to question because it puts out mind in a state where we want to
find out information about the current issues. Thus we need to detach ourselves from
the world and focus and pinpoint a specific issue so that other variable does not
create and side tracked thought or become irrelevant from the focused topic.
According to Gladdys et al (2008), qualitative questions and style of approach will be
effective for the topic due to the fact that we are focusing on values, traits and
characteristics therefore quantity will not be able to measure. But otherwise, the

survey will incorporate some quantative questions just to show how many of the
employers agree with the research or disagrees with the research.
esign - addressing project design and justifications in phiIosophicaI terms
Appropriate methodoIogy
The nature of this research focuses on the real reason as to why people from certain
generations are employed. This is merely focused on by the Ontology of nature and
in further depth related to Realism. This research enhanced the real thought of
people with in the generation and has been thought of in a certain way thought out
history. According to Salt (2007), all generation were categorized by the year they
born and he has discovered many factors that are creating the bridging gap within
the work environment. By adopting surveys and interviews, the answers received are
first hand and truthful. This can be determines by the answers and how common
they are and by viewing the expression on the subjects faces.
PhiIosophicaI and EpistemoIogicaI underpinnings
As mentioned, Realism will be the perspective of this research and the implications
may be the historical events that have shaped the world especially the values that
supposedly be passed on from generation to generation. t would be biased if the
subject replies with personal experiences thus the survey questions will be asked of
at the time prior to the bonding relationship with the member of the workforce and
thereafter for the result if it was whether beneficial or in reverse.
According to Widdowfield (2000), the emotion that may be seen during the fieldwork
can be a sign of biased or the truth. Media of past has portray each generations
differently and this research can use the initial research to read those for the current

research focusing on employment. Especially when the location of this research can
be placed in a work environment whereby we can see the role in action and to better
our knowledge of whether they are truthful or being biased.
