Your Very Strenuous LFUS

This is my philosophy on training. It is probably a bit different from other Trainers – but who says they are right!
This philosophy may not be transferable to other Trainers – they may not GET IT!

Yes please.
AIRMANSHIP Definitely, absolutely required.
Display lots and lots of it. The more the better.
Common sense is not so common.
CDF Be common, and apply sense.
See AIRMANSHIP.
You don’t need to make things any harder than what they already are.
KISS Aim to simplify – not complicate.
You will not impress me by over complicating things.
You’ve got a big window in front of your face – use it!
LOOKOUT It’s good for terrain, traffic, weather, rotations, finals and landings.
It may save your life one day.
No, not the one outside the window or displayed on your PFD – your personal
ATTITUDE attitude.
Maintain a healthy, correct one (and keep the blue side up).
Don’t sweat the trivia. This is not Rocket Science!
BACK TO BASICS All aircraft fly the same (even the Airbus).
When it is all getting too hard – revert to the basics (ANC – M).
Take some (but make sure they are balanced ones).
RISK Don’t become constrained by conservatism.
Don’t be the lowest common denominator.
I cautiously encourage them. See RISK.
Do not become paralysed with fear of making a mistake.
MISTAKES You’re 100% guaranteed to make them.
Mistakes are a powerful learning experience. Learn from them.
But don’t keep making the same ones (otherwise you’re not learning)!
And accept no less.
Work and study hard (but don’t go overboard).
BE THE BEST YOU
CAN BE Strive for high standards of personal and flight discipline.
If you’ve got good personal qualities, traits, characteristics and values, you’ll be
a good pilot.
And don’t forget it!
Challenge me, test me, question me. I will probably learn as much as you.
THIS IS TRAINING – You don’t know, what you don’t know. It’s my job to expand your knowledge.
NOT TESTING Learn to teach yourself.
Don’t fear the “Training Machine”. It’s not you against us (we really do want to
help you).
Glass sucks heads, eyes and fingers straight into it.
BEWARE THE GLASS
“VACUUM CLEANER” Be wary of Automation Complacency, Automation Dependency and Automation
Bias. See BACK TO BASICS.
I expect you to be good – it’s the “normal” state.
DON’T EXPECT LOTS
Being good is “normal” and you don’t get compliments for being “normal”.
OF COMPLIMENTS
But take pride from being “normal” – being good.
DON’T FORGET YOUR You didn’t get here by being a dunce. Use that prior experience.
PRIOR EXPERIENCE Your prior experience is your fallback position when it all becomes difficult.
Remember to smile.
ENJOY This is what got you into aviation in the first place.
Never forget the joy of flying – otherwise it’s just another job!
