Synopsis Management is an activity or process of assembling and using sets of resources that brings together, and puts into use, a variety of resources: human, financial, materials and informational, in a goal-directed manner to accomplish tasks in organizational setting. In this course, students learn about the four principal managerial functions most applicable to modern organizations that are, planning, organizing, directing, and controlling. Rationale for the inclusion of the course in the programme - To understand the theory and concepts of management. - To explain the major challenges with which managers must deal. - To understand how historical research on management has contributed to the current practice of management. - To discuss the primary managerial functions. - To explain the general roles involved in managerial work and the specific work within each. - To explore a dimensions of managerial jobs. - To discuss the primary skills required to be an effective manager. Mode of Delivery - Lecture, tutorial, projects, and presentation. Class Attendance Class attendance (lecture or tutorial) is compulsory and it is an essential prerequisite for better understanding of the course content; failing which you will be barred from attending the final examination. All Absenteeism has to be accompanied with proof such as a medical certificate or letter from the relevant authorities. Assessments The assessment for this course will be based on the following. - Group project 1 (Interviewing Manager) & Presentation - Group project 2 (books and journals review) - Mid-term examination - Final examination
