This is the most stressful area as we seek to make sure our children are prepared for the future. We must live within our budget that is continually changing and mostly decreasing. We have had to cut over $2 million from our budget in the last 4 years and yet we continue to be held to higher standards and testing scores. At Cardinal we have 3 out of 4 schools rated excellent by the State of Ohio and are very close to achieving that for the district. As our funds are depleted and we have had to make some challenging cuts, we continue to educate our kids at and above state standards and minimums. Six years ago, we implemented Pay to Participate for sports and music extracurriculars. We have twice had to either cancel high school bussing or make severe adjustments in the routes for those students as well as those that live within 11/2 miles of the school. We are involved in shared services with neighboring districts, our teachers and staff have agreed to wage and step freezes and increases to their contribution of their benefits and increased deductibles. We have received accolades for being fiscally responsible as a district and yet we continue to receive cuts in funding and must rely on levy dollars to make ends meet. Again we are going to the voters for an emergency 4.5mil levy this November. We must cut another $700,000 from our budget if this does not pass. This means deep cuts to staff and programs. So sad for our children. As Legislative Liason for our District, I am responsible for keeping us abreast of current legislation pending in Congress. I have written many letters of concern and praise to our legislators and have been active in our community getting people to register to vote. We have a voice and must use it to see any changes come about. I challenge you to do the same! Cardinal Schools continues to live within our budget and strives to provide a wellrounded education to our children. We have encouraged teachers and administrators to apply for grants to defray costs and we have succeeded in that area, especially in the area of technology. I have been a part of the Ohio Improvement Process team, with a goal of improving test scores in the District in Math and Reading and making our schools a friendly safe environment. We implemented a new math curriculum in our elementary that has helped achieve that goal. Our CAB reading program continues to grow and help us

in Reading. Communication with our stakeholders is something that can always be improved upon and also is a goal of mine. I also encourage our students to take ownership of their education and be active in school as well as in the community. We must all work together to continue to give our kids an excellent education. It will take the whole village to accomplish that goal! Proud to be a Huskie!
