Minimal vibrations and sound Robust and immensely strong for minimal vibrations and sound: Rigid engine block 1 , one-piece cylinder head 2 and reinforcement ladder frame 3 . With Volvo Penta IPS and sterndrive, sound and vibrations are further reduced, to a level impossible with traditional inboard shafts. The Saildrive gives the same improvements for sailboats.

Minimal smoke and smell Thanks to state-of-the-art engine technology, Volvo Penta engines are low on irritating exhausts, such as start up fumes, acceleration smoke etc. With Volvo Penta IPS and sterndrive, exhaust is emitted through the drive/pod, into the propwash and carried well behind the boat. Low emissions The entire D-series diesel engine range complies with US EPA, a regulation significantly more stringent than the European RCD regulation.
