Definition
Kompetensi adalah seperangkat tindakan cerdas, penuh tanggung jawab yang dimiliki seseorang sebagai syarat untuk dianggap mampu oleh masyarakat dalam melaksanakan tugas-tugas di bidang pekerjaan tertentu ( Ministerial Decree No. 045/U/2002 )

Competence includes a broad range of knowledege, attitudes, and observable patterns of behaviours which together account for the ability to deliver a specified professional service Profesional competence is the habitual and judicious use of communication, knowledge, technical skills, clinical reasoning, emotions, values and reflection in daily practice to improve yhe health of the individual patient and community

Competency is a complex set of behaviours bulit on the components of knowledge, skill , atitude and competence as personal ability Competency are simple behaviours required to complete a single task, in wich case, the task in effect become competen Competence include specific tasks and more general attributes of effective role perfoemance within the practice context

The various definition of competency shows that a competency is a blend of knowledge, skills and attitude needed to perform effectively as a medical doctor Competency statement also implies that this performance is carried out under a practice context or in another word contextualised. Competency emphasiezes on what will be achived at the end of medical education program, and not just about the acquisition of knowledge or cogntive domain . Competency statement requires an explicit level of of achievment

To be able to perform as a medical doctor effectively, one should master some competencies which can be divided into areas competencies. Area of competencies can be elaborated into competency component . Each competency component compries of knowledge, skills and atitudes .
