All Police Department Personnel Chief Swiney Selection of New Deputy Police Chief

I am pleased to announce that Wendy Davis has been selected to become our next Deputy Chief. Please join me in welcoming her to our organization. Her start date is Wednesday November 2nd. Wendy Davis, an 18 + year veteran law enforcement officer, started her career in 1992 as a reserve officer with the Bremerton Police Department. In September of 1995, she was hired as a full-time commissioned officer with BPD. Upon completion of the Washington State Basic Law Enforcement Academy she was awarded as the Best Overall Recruit in her class. In 2002 she was selected and promoted by Chief Robert Forbes to serve as the first female sergeant in the departments history. During her career with the Bremerton Police Department Wendy was assigned to the Patrol Division where she participated in a variety of specialty programs including bike patrol, boat patrol, school resource officer assistant, field training officer, Taser instructor, and defensive tactics instructor. In 1998 she was assigned to the Community Resource Division as the Crime Prevention Detective focusing on community education, Block Watch, landlord-tenant training, community policing, and served as a public information officer. After promotion in 2002 Davis returned to the Patrol Division where she had oversight of the K-9 units, Field Training Officer program, defensive tactics, bike patrol, and the departments recent Mobile Computer Terminal (MCT) upgrade. She also served as the Traffic Sergeant overseeing three traffic officers who investigate serious and fatality collisions, enforce traffic violations, and conduct DUI enforcement. Wendy Davis has been the proud recipient of two community awards including the Red Cross Real Heroes Law Enforcement Award in 2010 for life saving efforts at a motor vehicle collision and the Kitsap Sun/Kitsap Credit Unions Healthy Tomorrow Award in 2009 for contributions to the community that improve the quality of life. She has also been actively involved in many volunteer organizations including the Kitsap County Fair Board, Kitsap County Child and Youth Commission, Concerns of Police Survivors, Washington State Crime Prevention Association, Kitsap Day Care Association, and Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound. She has received an Associates of Arts and Science from Olympic College in Bremerton in 1994, obtained a Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2009, and recently completed a Masters in Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix in August of 2011. Wendy is married and resides with her husband, Bremerton Police Sergeant Mark Thompson, and son Lucas Davis at their small farm in Seabeck. She also has a step daughter, Kasey Ellis (Chris), a step son, Kyle Thompson, and three grandchildren, Ashlyn, Chase, and Riley.
