With a deep sense of gratitude we would sincerely like to thank Mr. Hanumant
Rawat (Regional Manager) and Mr. Srikanta Mishra (Program Officer) of ActionAid
International-India, Lucknow Regional Office, for accepting us as interns and guiding us,
time and again during the duration of the project .We are grateful to them especially
because of the learning environment that they provided.

Special thanks for our faculty guide Prof. Ila Patel, who at regular intervals
cleared our doubts and motivated us to complete our project. Her encouragement was
very vital for the success of our project.

We would also like to acknowledge the important part played by the main partners
like, DEHAT (Bahraich), Mahila Swarozgar Samiti (Sitapur), AASTHA (Shravasti),

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Title : Organizational Understanding


Organization : ActionAid International India

Scope: To understand the organization of Lucknow Regional Office (LRO) of ActionAid


International India. We have not included other Regional offices of Action Aid and the
various organizations to which LRO provides funds.

Objective:

• To understand the organization as a whole and department wise


• To know the mission and core values of the organization, its history, profile of the
governing body in order to understand the organization in a holistic manner.
• To understand its current operations, arrangement with its external environment in
order to facilitate its operations and analyze its financial performance so as to
know about its strengths and weakness
• The study also involved knowing strategies adopted by the organization to reach
its current level of operation and future strategies in order to cope and grow with
its environment

Methodology: It includes semi structured interviews with stakeholders like the various
Partners with which the organization works, unstructured interviews with the seven staffs
posted in LRO, observation of their daily schedule, informal discussion and secondary
data sources consisting of various documents available in the organization.

Main findings/ Learning:

• The LRO is a development funding organization supports and works on various


development initiatives and projects in UP and Uttaranchal.
• The organization is going through a transition phase where it has being given
more autonomy to initiate programme on its own contextual to the region.
• Though it is autonomous in its programmes but regarding the financial details it
has to take permission from the country office, New Delhi and thus we cannot
analyze it financially.
• The staff behaves like family members and so there is no such defined hierarchy.
• LRO has made a impact on the lives of marginalized population of UP and
Uttaranchal through its intervention. Still there are major challenges ahead for
ActionAid to make these people realise life with dignity and respect.
