RULES OF THE CONTESTS


11th Regional Higher Education Press Conference November 16-18, 2011-09-26 Microtel Inns and Suites, Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija Individual Writing and Illustrating Contest: 1. Eligibility. Any bonafide college student and a member of the school publication are eligible to participate in the Luzonwide Press Conference. Certification from the school registrar and Medical Certificate are required upon registration. 2. Contests shall be held simultaneously for English and Filipino, hence, participation of a student in both media of the same category is not allowed. A student contestant can only join in three categories. 3. There will be 12 contested categories in English and Filipino. The following: EDITORIAL WRITING, SPORTS WRITING, EDITORIAL CARTOONING, PHOTOJOURNALISM, FEATURE WRITING, POETRY WRITING, DEVCOM WRITING, COMIC STRIP DRAWING, COPYREADING/HEADLINE WRITING, NEWS WRITING, COLUMN/OPINION WRITING and LITERARY GRAPHICS ILLUSTRATION. 4. Contestants in Editorial Cartooning and Comic Strip drawing shall bring their own materials except for illustration boards which will be provided by the ATSPAR Secretariat at a particular cost. 5. Contestants in Editorial cartooning will use charcoal and/or pencil only.

6. Use of ink in Comic Strip Drawing is allowed. Comics drawing should be in four ( 4) boxes. 7. For Literary Graphic Illustration, contestants are to interpret a poem or any prose to be given by the lecturer/judge in a -illustration board following rules of print graphics. Any medium with maximum of six (8) colors are allowed.

8. Contestants in photojournalism shall bring their own DSLR camera. Upon registration, SD memory car must be free from any images. SD memory card will be inspected by the proctor. Contestants will be allowed to photo-shoot as many as he/she can for an hour. However, 12 shots and a signature shot will be the official images that are to be honored as entries for the contest. Six from the 12 shots are to be chosen as pictures for the layout. Contestants are allowed to provide thematic title for the six shots. Once the signature shot is deleted from the memory, entry will be disqualified. Conversions and editing of the photos are not allowed. Photo processing cost for six pictures will be shouldered by the contestants. 9. Only top five scorers in each category will be announced winners. 10. Failure to comply with these rules will disqualify the participants in the contests.

Group Competition
School papers/publication published within the present academic year 20112012 will be considered entry to the group competitions. There shall be 5 brackets: MAGAZINE, NEWSLETTER, TABLOID, BROADSHEET and LITERARY FOLIO. Schools can enter their publications in ANY or ALL of the bracket category provided no duplication of the same bracket type as entry. Sizes of publications shall be: Magazine Best Newsletter Best Literary Folio Broadsheet Tabloid (8.5 x 11.5 or 9x12, minimum of 24 pages) (8.5 x 11.5 or 9x12, minimum of 12 pages) (any size, minimum of 40 pages) (13/13.5 x 22, minimum of 12 pages) (12 x 18 , minimum of 12 pages)

Mimeographed and computer printed papers will not be allowed for competition. The policy on screening the sizes of the group entries should be strictly implemented. Once the entries are submitted and measured, it cannot be replaced or altered. The Checkers decision is final. The Checker will announce whether the entries are qualified or not. All entries should be submitted on or before 12 noon, November 16, 2011. 10 copies are required for competition. Top 5 will be announced winners and will receive trophies and certificates.

NOTE: No contestants shall be allowed to take the contest once the competition has started, hence in cases of conflict of contest schedules, the contestant shall choose which contest he/she will join. Sessions are given 2 hours, the 1 st 45 minutes is allotted for the lecture and the rest of the hours shall be for the contest. Contestants can skip the lecture part if he/she is attending another contest but has to make sure he/she will check in with the proctor on or before the contest starts. Dress code shall be properly observed. No contestants shall be allowed inside the contest rooms in house clothes. Advisers are not exempted from this house rule.
