Causes : Most Colombia marine fisheries are exported, as the fisheries commercial values is high, and only a little

is consumed domestically. In 2007, Colombia exported over USD. 61 millions worth of tuna to others countries and also contributed 1,79% from average tuna catching in East Pacific Ocean. One particular problem for the tuna industry concerns in availability of raw materials. Colombia has many small scale fisheries communities. The inadequate marine resources management caused they live below poverty. The following problems are the need to regulate the fishing of over-fished resources, high cost of feed and small margin profits in aquaculture. Some Colombia fishery resources are ready overexploited due to high demand of fish export and fisheries subsidies given by government. Overfishing and overexploitation, tragically, have been worldwide problems nowadays. Colombia needs to change its fisheries policy and and implement an adequate fisheries management to achieve fisheries sustainability and also to protect the marine resources. Policies : As far, Colombia itself has done good fisheries subsidies (such as fisheries managements, services, research, and development). Several Colombian institutions offer training for fishermen. They made research on artisanal fishing technology and its related to economy. Government requires the shrimp trawlers to use Turtle Excluder Devices to improve quality of shrimp, indirectly improve the shrimpers economics. Moreover, Colombia provides narrowly USD 2.8 millions for aquaculture subsidy in terms of supply fish products for human consumption. However, Colombia is still doing bad and ugly subsidies like rural fishers community development programs. In international, Colombia suggest the importance of proper management to ensure the sustainabilty of fisheries. The flexibilities given to developing countries to support fishing activities will be the important point of future disciplines. Colombia is also a member of Friends of Fish. As a one of developing countries with mega biodiverse, Colombia supports the development S&DT appropriately. Its believed will have a significant impact on worlds fish stocks. In addition, Colombia sent a message of renewed commitment of sustainable management of commercial tuna stocks in the Eastern Pacific Ocean at Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commision meeting. Solutions : Bad and ugly subsidies should be decreased considering the lack of worlds fish stocks. Tight free trade agremeents and provisions will help states in controlling their fisheries indutries. Prohibition of using endanger materials in fishing is a way to avoid coral reefs and biodiverse destruction. The most important of all is strengthening the fisheries managements by state. State also shoud give training to fishermen regularly in order to educate their fishermen. It is aimed to explain the information about good subsidies given by Fisheries Ministry. Developing aquaculture systems helps country to keep domestic fish stock safely. Furthermore, it is help to meet national objectives by providing income, jobs, food security and regional development.
