FIJI PORTS CORPORATION LIMITED Vacancy GENERAL MANAGER TECHNICAL SERVICES

Fiji Ports Corporation Limited (FPCL) is a wholly owned Government Commercial Company (GCC) established on 1st July 2005, as a result of the reorganization of the Port Industry, namely Ports Terminal Limited (PTL) and Maritime Ports Authority of Fiji Islands (MPAF). FPCL functions and services encompass operations of the six ports of entry (Suva, Lautoka, Levuka, Malau, Wairiki, Rotuma), administration of the subsidiary entities responsible for stevedoring and cargo handling activities (Ports Terminal Limited), and slipway and ship repairs/maintenance, Fiji Ships Heavy Industries Limited (FSHIL), management of the properties portfolio, and local wharves at Suva and Lautoka. To support the companys overall business growth and organizational and service improvements, Fiji Ports Corporation Limited is looking to fill the position of General Manager Technical Services. The position directly reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fiji Ports Corporation Limited and responsibilities will include the provision of engineering infrastructure planning input for the future within the port limits and to ensure that development is undertaken and facilities are provided with due regard to need, economy and consideration for the environment.

Position Scope: The holder of this position will be required to formulate and drive the Technical Services Division and main tasks will include amongst others: Undertake design and prepares specifications and contract documents for Port Works as required, and Act as Engineer to the Contract, Administers the Port Regulations in respect of engineering implications, carries out inspection of facilities and takes appropriate follow-up action, Liaises and comments on Local Body and Government Planning Schemes within Port boundaries and related matters, Computer literate for planning and analysis of port projects via different computer modules and programs, Assist in training and development of engineering staff by transfer of technology and methodology, Reviews and prepares recommendations on proposals for infrastructure development by Government and private organizations referred to FPCL for comment or approval; Undertake other duties as and when required.

The ideal individual will have proven management experience, a strategic thinker with ability to build strong relationships and provide effective leadership, and also very motivated and a business professional and with engineering background who can take control and be accountable. Qualification and skills: A degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized Institution and Membership of a recognized professional body, Over thirteen (13) years post graduation and at least five years will have been gained in a senior management position, Will have several years experience in planning, construction and contract administration, and maintenance works, preferably in port related area, Experience and skills in change management, analytical and monitoring, strategic planning and performance improvement and assessment, Computer literate in planning and analysis programmes, Wide knowledge and with an interest in environmental implications of foreshore development, Ability to work in a multi-faceted operational environment.
