N.B. In the case of tyres bearing the Speed Code W or Y ("new regulations"), Directive no. 92/23 EEC prescribes, while regulation ECE/UNO no. 30 permits, inclusion of the symbol "ZR" in the dimension marking. If the vehicle Registration Document prescribes "old regulation" tyres without Speed Code and with the symbol ZR included in the dimension marking, it is possible to fit either tyres with the symbol ZR included in the dimension marking and complete with Load Index and Speed Code W (or Y) or tyres bearing the Load Index and Speed Code only, without the symbol ZR in the dimension marking. For example, the following measurements: 205/55ZR16, 205/55ZR16 89W (or 89Y), 205/55R16 89W (or 89Y) are equivalent, with the condition that Speed Code (W = 270 km/h or Y = 300 km/h) must in any case be superior or equal to the maximum vehicle approval speed. g) The vehicle may be fitted, in winter, with M+S tyres (MS, M-S, M&S) suitable for snow, with Speed Code inferior to the specification of the Registration Document on condition that it is not inferior to Q (160 km/h). In this case, the driver must observe the more restrictive limits imposed by the Speed Code of the M+S tyres, applying a warning notice inside the vehicle (on the dashboard).
