solution with the empirical formula: Al2(SO4)3.51.8 H2O This may be alternatively expressed as : Al2O3.3SO3.51.8 H2O The Al2O3 content of the product is 8% w/w hence the Industry Standard description of the product as 8% Aluminium Sulphate. In Aluminium terms the product contains 4.2% w/w, and as Aluminium Sulphate it contains 26.8% w/w. 1.2 Characteristics Form: pH: Density: Viscosity: Stability: A low odour clear solution, colourless to pale yellow 1.8 2.2 1.315 at 15C 22.5 cp at 15C Stable in excess of 2 years at ambient temperature 1.3 Variation of Properties with Temperature 1.3.1 Density

2.3 Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) Liquid Aluminium Sulphate is also supplied in 1000 litre (1.3 tonne) IBCs. The cost of the chemical includes the provision of the IBC which is non-returnable. Empty IBCs may be disposed of via an independent collection system. Details of the system are attached to each IBC. 3 STORAGE OF LIQUID ALUMINIUM SULPHATE 3.1 Materials of Construction Recommended materials of construction for bulk storage tanks are: Polypropylene High density polyethylene Fibreglass reinforced plastic Stainless steel Rubber lined steel Be aware that a maximum delivered product temperature of 50 C may apply. 3.2 Bulk Storage General Storage tanks must be bunded and fitted with level indicators and high level alarms audible and visible at the tanker offloading point. Ultrasonic contents measurement systems are recommended. 3.3 Storage Tank Configuration Storage tanks may be vertical cylindrical, or horizontal cylindrical. Filling lines should be a minimum 50mm NB, overflow lines minimum 75 mm NB, and vents minimum 100 mm NB. 4.3 Pumps Recommended dosing pumps are solenoid diaphragm pumps for low flow rate applications, and motor driven diaphragm pumps for higher flow requirements. 4.2 Valves Recommended valves are full bore ball type for isolation. Materials of construction are as for pipework. Flow control is best made by variations in dosing pump speed and stroke.

3.4 Safety Provisions The provision of a safety shower and eyewash facility, and a water hose, at the tanker discharge point is required. 3.5 Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBC) Full IBC weight is 1370kg. Bases are 4-way wooden pallet type. Outlet connection is a DN 50 Butterfly valve with a connecting thread S6 x 6. 4 PIPEWORK, VALVES AND PUMPS FOR LIQUID ALUMINIUM SULPHATE 4.1 Pipework Recommended materials of construction for pipework are: ABS uPVC Polypropylene Stainless steel
