From the ES Administration

Dear Elementary School Parents, How to make learning stick? This week saw our culminating simulation for our Grade 4 students based on their first unit of inquiry on migration. It involved a large amount of parent support and involvement in creating an immigration simulation in the Little Theatre: Immigration Island. Brain research tells us that when learning is purposeful and contextual, it is more likely to be retained and more readily transferred into new situations and scenarios. Emotional stimulus helps the brain learn, so wherever possible, we need to create scenarios where we are engaging our students in such a way. At Immigration Island it is evident that all of the above was achieved as our students were placed in the role of a migrant and subject to a variety of scenarios, in very realistic conditions. Thank you to all our parents, who volunteered and visited, for supporting this learning and making it so realistic for our students. Conferences Monday and Tuesday, we are holding our parent teacher conferences. These are an opportunity for you to discuss your childs learning with your teacher. Our purpose is to provide you with some feedback on your childs learning strengths and also to set some goals for their learning in the areas where they are developing. These conversations are invaluable in ensuring that there is a strong connection between what is taking place at home and at school. It is also to gain a greater insight into your perspective about your childs learning and how we can work together to support them. This meeting should form part of an on-going discussion with your class teacher, focused on supporting your child to achieve their potential in all areas of their development

From the Art Department

ES Art Department needs your junk!
We have been so busy creating amazing art this semester that we have used up a lot of the resources you sent at the beginning of the year. We would hugely appreciate your help in providing any of the flowing items: Boxes, toilet and kitchen roll tubes, newspapers and magazines, egg cartons, yogurt pots, polystyrene and plastic takeaway boxes, old and even broken toys and dolls, cds, wrapping paper, ribbons, fabric, beads and unwanted costume jewelry, old shoes and bags. These items can be brought to room 11891191 at anytime or you can get your children to bring them in with them to their art class. If you do not have any items now we hope you will collect them for us and bring them in the future. Many thanks for you continued support,

academic and social / emotional. For families who do not speak English as their first language, you have an open invitation to speak your mother tongue where appropriate. Specialist teachers will be available for drop in visits on both days. Directions to the specialists rooms will be posted outside the ES Office. In addition, please do feel free to visit either of us on Monday or Tuesday while you are on campus. We look forward to welcoming you on campus next week.
