arcplan Enterprise 6 Installation and Configuration Guide 1.1 arcplan Enterprise 6 Server
Page 3
The arcplan Application Server is the core of arcplan Application upon which the arcplan Application Service is executed. The service can access all popular database systems and the Internet via the interfaces and in so doing, opens up all internal and external data sources. The arcplan Application Server computer also stores the individual applications. To access these applications a web server such as Microsoft Internet Information Server is required. The users open the HTML start page on the web server with any browser. The HTML start page determines which application on the arcplan Application Server should be started. The browser loads the client, which communicates with the arcplan Application Server via the arcplan CGI. The service starts the application and reads the data from the corresponding data sources (internal, external or Internet). The arcplan documents containing the latest results are then displayed in the browser on the client.

arcplan Enterprise 6 Installation and Configuration Guide Appendix A: Configuring the .Net Framework for the .Net Client
Page 30
.NET based Windows Forms Control: Microsoft offers a technique to embed a so-called Windows Form Control into the browser page. These Windows Forms are embedded into the Microsoft .NET Framework, which has to be installed on the client computer. The arcplan .NET client is a Windows Forms Control based web client for the arcplan Application Server. It is a 3rd web deployment option next to the Java Applet and the HTML viewer. The functionality of the arcplan .NET client is similar to that of the Java Applet. What are the benefits? Support of the Microsoft standards for embedding client controls into Web pages (windows form controls) Support of enhanced security and authorization concepts, e.g. Windows Integrated Authentication The .NET client components are part of the Windows Vista operating system, Microsoft Office 2007 and are already deployed with Windows 2003 Server. What do I need to run the .NET client? Similar to a Java Applet requiring a JRE, use of the .NET client requires installation of the Microsoft.NET Framework on the Web Client machine (note that the .NET framework does NOT have to be installed on the arcplan Server). The Microsoft .NET Framework is currently available per default on a Windows 2003 Server installation and will be shipped with future Windows Operating Systems. It can also be downloaded from the Microsoft website. In previous versions, two variants of the .Net-Client were available: arcClientNet.dll (Low Trust) and arcClientNetP.dll (Full Trust). arcplan Enterprise 6 offers only the "Full Trust" component named arcClient6Net.dll. This component requires the additional component arcplan6Api.dll. A runtime security policy has to be applied to both components (see below). Important changes to previous versions: The .NET-Client requires an installation of the .NET Framework 2.0 or higher on the client computer. Older versions of the .NET Framework are no longer supported. Existing HTML start pages need to be created anew in the arcplan Enterprise Administration Console. Existing documents created with arcplan Enterprise 5 or 5.5 can be used without change by arcplan Enterprise 6. Processing of arcplan Enterprise 6 documents with arcplan 5.x, however, is not supported.
There are two steps necessary to configure the .Net environment: 1. Installing the .NET Client on the web server 2. Configuring security settings on .NET client computers

arcplan Enterprise 6 Installation and Configuration Guide 1. Setup and Configuration: Web Server
Page 31
How to install the .NET Client 1. In the arcplan Administrator, open the folder Server Objects and click the plus sign next to Webserver. 2. Successively click the plus signs in front of Webserver 1, Client Components and Available Version. This is where the version of the arcplan Client Components available on the arcplan server is displayed. If you click on Installed Version the version currently installed on the web server is displayed. 3. Choose Available Version and click Install in the toolbar. 4. Click Browse and select the full path of the Web Server Target Directory into which the arcplan client components are to be installed. 5. Enter the External URL of the Target Directory which will be used by the browser to load the client components. The access can be made with http or https. Select the desired option. This information will be inserted into the HTML start page when it is created. 6. Click OK. The correctly installed version is now displayed under Installed Version. Note: In order for the web client to download the DLLs (arcClient6Net.dll and arcplan6API.dll), the Web Server directory, where the arcplan client components reside, needs to grant the web client read access to the components (refer to chapter 3.4 above) Example for a correct configuration on IIS:

arcplan Enterprise 6 Installation and Configuration Guide 2. Setup and Configuration: Client Security Settings
Page 32
In a default installation of the .NET Framework on a client computer a user has only Internet permissions in respect to calling Windows Forms Control over the internet. Internet permissions prevent the following activities: Reading and writing local files Execution of files and applications Opening URLs in the same or a new browser window Printing Currently there are three different methods of adjusting the Security Settings on the client computer (only an administrator is allowed to modify the default security settings): Method 1: Adjusting Client Security Settings with the caspol.exe tool The caspol.exe tool can be used to adjust the .NET 2.0 security settings on a client computer. 1. Open a command prompt window. 2. Navigate to the folder C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\framework\v2.0.50727 3. Enter the following command line: caspol -machine -addgroup All_Code -pub -file http://webservername/arcplanclient6 /arcclient6net.dll FullTrust name arcplan 4. Answer Y (for yes) to the prompt Thus the permission set Full Trust is assigned to the publisher arcplan Information Services AG. The publisher is extracted from the arcClient6Net.dll by the caspol tool. This security setting grants all privileges required on the client computer by the arcClient6Net.dll. 5. Enter the following command line: caspol -machine -addgroup All_Code -pub -file http://webservername /arcplanclient6 /arcplan6api.dll FullTrust name arcplan 6. Answer Y (for yes) to the prompt Thus the permission set Full Trust is assigned to the publisher arcplan Information Services AG. The publisher is extracted from the arcClient6API.dll by the caspol tool. The other method is to run the command line via a batch job. Such a batch job can be distributed by SMS or via Active Directory and used to apply the security settings on remote client computers.

2. 3. 4. 5.
Click on Add a Child Code Group and enter arcplanNETclient for the new code group. Click Next to Choose a condition type for this code group. Choose Strong Name and click on the Import... button. Browse the file arcClient6Net.dll, e.g. c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\arcplanClient\arcClient6Net.dll, to import its Public key. 6. Click Next and set the permission set to Full Trust. 7. Click Next and Finish to create the new code group. This procedure assigns the permission Full Trust to the strong name specified. This security setting grants all privileges required on the client computer by the arcClient6Net.dll and arcplan6API.dll Note: If the .NET Framework 3.0 or 3.5 is already installed on the computer, the mentioned security settings have to be applied to this version, too.
