LESSON PLAN: Digital Photography Part 2 - Creating a Collage

YEAR LEVEL AND SUBJECT & DATE CLASSROOM CONTEXT Is this a mixed ability class? Are there specialneeds students? Is it a single-sex classroom? Is classroom layout important? RATIONALE Why am I teaching this lesson? Why am I using this particular pedagogy/methodology? Grade 7, Knowledge in IT. This is a single sex classroom (all girls); It is important that every student has access to the workstation.

RESOURCES What is needed in this lesson? LEARNING OUTCOMES What do I want students to achieve in terms of skill and content acquisition in this lesson?

This lesson will teach students: The main features of a collage The basic features of Adobe Photoshop such as The concept of layers Cropping and editing images The move tool The rectangular marquee tool Using text box to insert text. How to create a Collage (using the images captured in the previous class) with Adobe Photoshop. How to save their work. Access to workstations, Adobe Photoshop. Use of complex ICT tools, peripherals and manipulation techniques to explore and represent the relationship between components (VELS 5.25, 2nd Paragraph, ICT for visualizing thinking).

What do I want students to achieve in terms of skill and content acquisition in this lesson?

PHYSICAL, PERSONAL AND SOCIAL LEARNING Students will learn to work as individuals and also as a team by sharing their ideas with other students. Stages of the Learning and Teaching Cycle (not all lessons will contain all 5 stages). Pedagogical frameworks such as Blooms Taxonomy or Gardners Multiple Intelligences theory can also be incorporated into strategies and activities.

The following stages of teaching learning cycle will be incorporated into the lesson: Engagement: Students will be shown a collage to understand the concept of creating collage. Building Knowledge: I will demonstrate how to use Adobe photo shop to manipulate images. Transformation: Students will apply the concepts taught in the class to create a collage. Presentation: Students will display the collage to their peers Task Break Down Total Duration (50 min) Task1 (5min) Students settle in class and roll call will be conducted.

Introduce Adobe Photoshop. Demonstrate the basic features of Adobe Photoshop to students The tool box (rectangular marquee tool ,move tool, text box)(3min) The concept of layers(6min) Demonstrate how to create a collage using Adobe Photoshop Students work on creating collage with the images captured in the previous class. Students save their work.

There is no formal assessment for this lesson, but I will be constantly observing the students as they work through their projects to notice their progress.

the learning outcomes? EVALUATION Did the students achieve the learning outcomes? What might I change about this lesson in future? Students will be encouraged to display their work to their peers and the teacher, which in turn will give me an idea about what they have learnt and how well they have applied the concepts taught in the class.
