tHE DEtAILs HoW AnD WHEn Do I AppLy FoR REsIDEnCE? First-year student: apply for residence on your oUaC application to the university. if you did not indicate on your oUaC form a request for residence information, you can make the change by logging into oUaC. If the change cannot be made there (i.e. application is already under review by admissions & awards), then contact admissions and awards immediately to change your residence status. if you do not contact the office of admissions prior to admission, you will be waitlisted and will lose the guarantee of residence for which you may have been eligible. Graduate, upper year undergraduate, transfer student, or student enrolled in a program requiring university preparation

(e.g. pharmacy, nursing, law, education, medicine, radiation sciences, dentistry): apply directly to the residences you are eligible for (see chart, back cover). Demand is high, so apply early, even before you are admitted. tHE GuARAntEE Residence is guaranteed for full-time students from inside and outside toronto and who: are entering their first year of study in an undergraduate program* and are accepted by May 31 and indicate their interest in residence on their application for admission Most students guaranteed residence will receive an offer by the end of June. *Bachelor of arts and science, Music, physical education and Health, or applied science and engineering

HoW Do I CHoosE A REsIDEnCE? If you are a first-year arts and science student, you will likely have the opportunity to be housed at either a residence operated by the college to which you are admitted or the Chestnut Residence. Colleges are ranked on your oUaC application to the University. If you are an engineering, Music, or physical education and Health student, youll complete the Residence preference Form online. Residences first select students who rank them first on the Residence preference Form. In 2009, due to demand, 53% of firstentry professional faculty students obtained their first residence preference and 76% received an offer from one of their top three preferences. If you are not entering first-year, apply directly to each residence you are eligible for (see chart, back cover).

WHAt ARE my REsIDEnCE optIons? Check out the following pages for specific info on your rez options. a variety of residence styles are available on the st. George campus including: Dormitory (dorm)-style: single and double rooms in large residence halls. shared apartment-style: mostly single rooms (a few doubles at Graduate House and Victoria College) in a samesex or co-ed apartment with shared kitchen, living area, and washrooms. shared houses: single and double rooms in shared historic homes (located at st. Michaels College). private apartment-style: bachelor, oneor two- bedroom private apartments are available only at Family Housing. WHAt KInD oF Room WILL I GEt? If you are a first-year student, you will likely share a double room unless you are in an apartment-style residence like Woodsworth or Innis, which offer all single rooms. New College, UC, and trinity offer at least half of their first-year students single rooms as well. If you are an upper-year or graduate student, or studying in a program requiring university preparation, you will likely receive a single room. suites and rooms are usually shared among same-sex residents. Most dorm-style halls have common washroom facilities, which may be single-sex or co-ed.

WHAt ARE tHE mEAL pLAns LIKE? the cafeterias on campus offer a multitude of food choices, with vegetarian options at all cafeterias and vegan options available at some. You can personalize your meal plans to suit your appetite, whether you eat a little or a lot. Meal plans are mandatory at all residences except Innis College, Woodsworth College, Graduate House, and Family Housing. If you have special dietary concerns, be sure to contact the residence office to see if your needs can be accommodated. WHEn Do I movE In AnD out? Move-in for most residences is over the labour Day weekend in september, with move-out taking place at the end of april or early May (following the undergraduate arts and science academic calendar). exceptions include Family Housing and Graduate House, which provide month-to-month rentals. Most residences are closed during the winter holiday period in December and January during which time you must temporarily leave residence. Most residences offer the option to stay over the summer months, often at a discounted rate. Many students return to residence for additional years, although multiple years in residence are not guaranteed. If you would like to return, be sure to apply through your residence office.

HoW muCH DoEs REsIDEnCE Cost?* Dorm-style residences with meal plans range from $8,165 to $14,148 for the eight month academic year, depending on the residence and type of meal plan. shared apartment-style residences with no meal plan range from $6,250 to $7,420. Family Housing ranges from $630 to $1,030 per month and Graduate House is $567 to $829 per month, depending on the type and size of accommodation. * These rates reflect 2009-10 prices.
