September 27, 2011 Dear Parents/Students of Walter Johnson: This letter is to provide information concerning the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test, the PSAT, which will be administered on Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 to all ninth, tenth and eleventh graders. All students are required to attend school on October 12th. A revised bell schedule, which accommodates the efficient administration of the exam, is included in this letter and is available on the Walter Johnson website. Test groups will be established and posted throughout the building prior to October 12th. Administrators and guidance counselors will visit English classes prior to the test date to review procedures and to provide an information packet for each student. This material also includes sample test questions as well as answers to the most commonly asked questions about the PSAT. You may also access additional information about the PSAT on the WJ website at: www.walterjohnson.com/information/psat/ All tenth and eleventh grade students will be required to take the official 2011 PSAT exam, for which there will be no cost or registration procedure. This test will be scored by the Educational Testing Service. All ninth grade students will take a practice PSAT exam for which there is no fee and which will be scored by Revolution Prep. Exam scores for all students taking the practice and official PSAT (freshmen, sophomores and juniors) will be explained by Counseling Services during an evening session for students and parents on Monday, December 12, 2011. Please note, students who will take the official PSAT must have been granted testing accommodations through The College Board in order to receive them. Students who have already been approved for accommodations on other College Board exams (AP, SAT, etc.) do not need to re-apply.

All twelfth grade students will report to school by 7:19 a.m. This will be an excellent opportunity for seniors to complete Compass Points Packets information, college applications, or to earn Student Service Learning (SSL) hours. You may contact your childs counselor or Mr. Micah Wiggins, Assistant Principal, if you have further concerns or questions regarding the PSAT testing. Once again, let me reiterate that Wednesday, October 12th is an official school day and all ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade students are expected to attend during the morning testing block. Failure to attend will result in unexcused absences for morning classes.
