Welcome to our fifth session of online Mathematics for class VII. Kindly go through the material very carefully, your understanding matters. This chapter is for the month of August(Final term) 2010.

Topic : Simple Interest Simple Interest is extensively used in banks. In fact keeping in mind Simple interest ;we are able to calculate the amount for various schemes like FDRs ( C.Cs) , loans , etc. We often save our money and make C.Cs for a specified period depending upon the time and amount that suits us and can vary from individual to individual. If our money save is not sufficient, we borrow money from the bank , financial institutions or a moneylender . These institutions lend us money if we agree to return the borrowed money after specified period of time. After the specified period we not only have to return the money but also pay the extra money for using their money. These terms are given names as follows: Principal: it is the money or sum borrowed or invested denoted often by P for a specified period of time and in mathematics its denoted by T. Interest: is the agreed percentage of the sum borrowed at the time of taking money throughout the loan period and is denoted by R. The rate is calculated on Rs.100 for 1 year. Amount :the money that will be returned to the bank or the borrower , in short it is the money/sum borrowed + interest i.e A =Principal +interest. Simple Interest : the additional money to be paid for having used the borrowed money and in mathematics it is denoted by I. Formulae: I=PxRxT PxR A = P +I P = I x 100 RxT R = I x 100 PxT T = I x 100 100

Case I : Amount = Rs. 4745 , time = 3years Case II : Amount = Rs. 5475 , time = 5years Subtracting the above two statements , we get Amount(Rs.5475 Rs. 4745) , time ( 5years 3 years) Amount (Rs.730) in time ( 2 year) Amount in 1 year= Rs. 730 2 = Rs.365 To equate it to case I multiply by 3 we get Amount (Rs.365 x 3), time (1 year x 3) Amount (Rs.1095 ), time (3 years) Now; SI = Rs. 1095 , time = 3 years, principal = Rs. 4745 Rs.1095 = Rs.3650 R = 100 x SI PxT 1 365 R = 100 x 1095 = 10% 3650 x 3 1 1 Therefore, rate is 10% Case I : Principal = ? let it be P , rate = 11% p.a , time = 3 years. Case II : Principal = ? let it be P , rate = 10% p.a, time = 4 years. The difference in SI in two case is Rs. 574 Case I < case II by Rs. 574 Equating the case I and case II, we get SI of case I = SI of case II 574 Substitute the values provided by the question P x 11 x 3 = P x 10 x 4 574 100 100

Q5.

33P = 40P 574 100 100 100(33P) = 100(40P 574) 3300P = 4000P 57400 Transposing 4000P to left hand side, we get 3300P 4000P = - 57400 -700 P = -57400 P = -57400 ( -700 ) P = 8200 Therefore, sum is Rs. 8200 Q6. The amount to be divided is Rs. 3000 If the first share taken is R , the other share would be (3000 R ) As per the problem given, SI on part I whose P is taken as R at a rate of 8% p.a for 4years is equal to SI on share II whose P= 3000 R at a rate of 9% p.a for 2 years. Representing mathematically, Share I :SI = R x 8 x 4 100 Share II :SI = (3000 R) x 9 x 2 100 Equating the above statements; R x 8 x 4 = (3000 R) x 9 x 2 100 100 1 1 32R = 3000 x 18 18R Transposing -18R to left hand side 32R + 18R = 54000 50R = 54000 R = 54000 50 R= 10800 Therefore, principal for share I is Rs. 10800 , principal for share II is Rs. 3000 Rs.10800 = Rs.1920

Q7.

The amount to be divided is Rs. 6000 If the first share taken is Z , the other share would be (6000 Z ) As per the problem given, SI on part I whose P is taken as Z at a rate of 12% p.a for 9months (9/12 year) is equal to SI on share II whose P= 6000 Z at a rate of 10% p.a for 1 years(3/2 years). Representing mathematically, Share I :SI = Z x 12 x 9 100 x 12 Share II :SI = (6000 Z) x 10 x 3 100 x 2 5 Equating the above statements; Z x 12 x 9 = (6000 Z) x 10 x 3 100 x 12 100 x 2 1 1 1 9Z = 6000 x 15 15Z

Transposing -15Z to left hand side 9Z +15Z = 90000 24Z = 90000 Z = 90000 24 Z= 3750 Therefore, principal for share I is Rs. 3750 , principal for share II is Rs. 6000 Rs.3750 = Rs. 2250 Q8. The amount to be divided is Rs. 3600 If the first share taken is H , the other share would be (3600 H ) As per the problem given, SI on part I whose P is taken as H at a rate of 9% p.a and SI on share II whose P= 3600 H at a rate of 10% p.a should amount to Rs.333 Representing mathematically, Time is not given so taking it as 1 year for both since rate is in per annum. Share I :SI = H x 9 x 1 100 Share II :SI = (3600 H) x 10 x 1 100 Adding the both gives Rs. 333 H x 9 x 1 + (3600 H ) x 10 x 1 = Rs. 333 100 100 9H + (3600 H ) x 10 = Rs.333 x 100 9H + 36000 10H = 33300 9H 10H = 33300 36000 -H = - 2700 H = Rs. 2700 Therefore, principal for share I is Rs. 27000 , principal for share II is Rs. 3600 Rs.2700 = Rs. 900 Amount deposited in bank = Rs.8000 Let rate of interest be R SI after 1 year on Rs. 8000 = 8000 x R x 1 = 80R (I) 100 Amount withdrawn after 1 year = Rs. 2000 Amount left = Rs. 8000 Rs.2000 = Rs.6000 SI on the amount for 2 years = 6000 x R x 2 = 120R (II) 100 At the end of three years the amount received is Rs.7800 Total amount taken from bank = Rs. 2000 + Rs. 7800 = Rs. 9800 Amount taken as SI = Rs. 9800 Rs. 8000 = Rs. 1800 Adding the equation (I) and (II) we get , 80R +120R = 1800 200R =1800 R = 1800200 R=9 Therefore, the rate of interest is 9% Hari : P = Rs.8000 , time = 3 years, rate = ? let it be R SI = 8000 x R x 3 = 240R 100 Ajit : P = Rs.6250, time = 3 years , rate = ? let it be same as for Hari i.e R 125 SI = 6250 x R x 3 = 375R 2 100 2

Kanti: P = ? let it be P , rate = 8% p.a , time = 3 years (same as for Satish) SI = P x 8 x 3 = 24P 100 100 Satish : P = same as Kanti, rate = 12% , time = 3 years SI = P x 12 x 3 = 36P 100 100 Kanti gains an amount of Rs. 420 36P 24P = 420 100 100 36P 24P = 420 x 100 12P = 42000 P = 42000 12 P = 3500 The sum is Rs. 3500 Amount borrowed = Rs.25000 Money bifurcated into two parts and an interest of 12 % p.a is paid on one while on other the rate of interest is 14% p.a Part I : P = let it be P , rate = 12 , time = 1 year since rate of interest is in per annum. SI = P x 12 x 1 = 12P 100 100 Part II : P = (25000 P) , rate = 14 , time = 1 year since rate of interest is in per annum. SI = (25000 P) x 14 x 1 = 25000 x 14 14P = 350000 -14P 100 100 100 Total Interest paid = Rs. 3260 12P + 350000 -14P = Rs.3260 100 12P 14P + 350000 = 3260 x 100 -2P = 326000 - 350000 P = -24000 (-2) P = 12000 Therefore the sum borrowed is Rs.12000 and Rs. 25000 Rs.12000 = Rs.13000 at different rate of interest.
