How to apply for the Canadian Japanese-Mennonite Scholarship:


1. Complete the Application Form (including a one page description of how your academic work will contribute to the objectives of this scholarship) and mail it to: Mennonite Central Committee Canada c/o Canadian Japanese-Mennonite Scholarship 134 Plaza Drive Winnipeg MB R3T 5K9 Applications must be received by April 1, 2012 to be considered. Insert your name on both copies of the Request for a Letter of Reference. Forward a Request for a Letter of Reference and an Information Page to each of the two references indicated on your application form. Encourage them to mail their letters of reference directly to MCC Canada.

CANADIAN JAPANESE-MENNONITE SCHOLARSHIP REQUEST FOR A LETTER OF REFERENCE

_______________________ has made an application for the Canadian Japanese-Mennonite Scholarship (description attached) and you have been listed as a reference. The attached document outlines the selection criteria, as well as the purpose of the scholarship.

In your letter of reference, please include the following: 1. Your honest assessment of the applicant's skills and interests as they relate to the intent of this scholarship; The name of the institution where the applicant is enrolled and a brief description of the applicant's program of studies; Your relationship to the applicant; Your name and address.

SELECTION CRITERIA The scholarship will be awarded to a student who is: - a Canadian citizen or permanent resident studying at a university in Canada; - enrolled in a graduate degree program; - engaged in research that will assist the protection of minority or human rights in Canada. HISTORY AND PURPOSE OF THE SCHOLARSHIP The scholarship was created as a tangible symbol of co-operation between Canadian Japanese and Canadian Mennonites, subsequent to a formal apology that was offered to Canadian Japanese, by MCC Canada on behalf of Canadian Mennonites. The scholarship is intended to assist the protection of minority and human rights in Canada, and to reduce the potential for abuse of cultural minorities such as that suffered by Japanese Canadians during World War II.
