ONE-DAY SEMINAR ON PAVEMENT CONDITION ASSESSMENTS (PCA) METHODS

(Organized by Highway & Transportation Engineering Technical Division) Date : 30 September 2010 (Thursday) Time: 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Venue: C&S / TUS Lecture Rooms, 2nd Flr, Wisma IEM, Petaling Jaya ~ SYNOPSIS ~ The seminar will consist of 3 main sessions ie on Pavement Condition Assessment (PCA) Methods, PCA Data Post Processing using Hawkeye 2000 and GIS Applications and lastly PCA Practical Demonstration. Participants will learn about the functional and structural evaluation methods used to evaluate pavement conditions. The equipments used for functional and structural evaluations which include the High Speed Road Surface Condition Survey Vehicle and Falling Weight Deflectometer will be described and illustrated in detail. Participants will be exposed on the actual post processing procedures involved for the PCA. The software tool used for processing the raw data i.e. Hawkeye 2000 will be demonstrated. Participants will also be able to see in real live all the equipments and methods involved in carrying out the PCA. There will be outdoor demonstrations of the High Speed Road Condition Vehicle, Falling Weight Deflectometer, Dynamic Cone Penetrometer, Pendulum test and sand patch test.

~ BIODATA of SPEAKER ~ Engr. Ahmad Kamel Bin Abdul Malik BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering MBA (Strategic Management) Engr. Ahmad Kamel graduated from Bolton University in the UK in 1990. He furthered his education in 2004 and acquired a Masters in Business Administration in Strategic Management in 2006 from International Business School, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. From 1990 to 2001 Engr. Ahmads work experiences were varied covering experiences in urban road improvements, construction of stadium, establishments of hospital infrastructures, construction of power station and construction of expressways. From 2001 until present, his work experiences became more focus in Federal Road Maintenance and specializing in the field of Road Asset Management. His position as the Senior Manager with Selia Selenggara Sdn. Bhd. encompasses the responsibility of applying Road Asset Management methods and technology application for 4,000 km of Federal Roads in the Southern Region of Peninsular Malaysia covering the States of Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Johor.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION: All fees must be fully paid before commencement of the seminar, otherwise participants will not be allowed to enter the Lecture/Conference Hall. Reservation/Booking by fax or email of intending participants is acceptable with payment being forwarded before the closing date. If a place is reserved and the intended participants failed to attend the talk on the date of the event the fee is to be settled in full. Completed registration form accompanied by cash/cheque/PO/MO are to be made payable to The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia account should reach the IEM Secretariat not later than 27 September 2010.
The fee paid is non refundable. However, substitution of participant(s) will be permitted with approval by IEM. In view of the limited places available, intending participants are advised to send their registration as early as possible so as to avoid disappointment. The Organising Committee reserves the right to cancel, alter or change the programme due to unforeseen circumstances. Every effort will be made to inform the registered participants of any changes.
