He taught both in a comprehensive school and at Cornell University, USA before joining the University of Kent, where he is now Senior Lecturer in German. Mr Coggle has co-authored several German textbooks, including the Ealing Course in German. In 1988 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. In 1992 he acted as series editor on a series of Teach Yourself Beginner’s titles in French, German, Italian and Spanish; in 1994, again as series editor, on a series of Teach Yourself Verbs titles in French, German, Italian and Spanish.
