2. INSTALLATION

Important Notes:
Lamp Size
a) b) c) d) e) 1. Check product labels for correct input voltage and frequency before installation. If separate switched and unswitched supplies are to be connected to this luminaire they must originate from the same phase. If testing distribution wiring by meggering, luminaires must be disconnected or damage may occur. Please read instructions carefully before commencing. All installation work should be carried out to current IEE regulations. Compare the fitting for conversion to the original circuit schematics shown. If the fitting does not match any of the circuits consult the manufacturer or supplier. Check the Module Label to ensure you are using the correct module for your application. Fit the Module and Battery Pack in an accessible position within the luminaire, ensuring that it is as far away as possible from heat generating components i.e. choke, transformer etc. (Max. temperatures allowed are 70 for Module and 50 for Battery.) Ensure you do not obstruct the cable entry points, louvre or earthing points. If relocating existing components ensure they are correctly fitted and take note of points mentioned in 3. Use high temperature PVC cable (105) equal to or larger than the cable used in the fitting. Use heat sleeving if required and route the cable in a neat fashion (avoid sharp or serrated edges). Route the lamp wires away from mains cables where possible to avoid EMC coupling.

When converting high frequency ballast use the HFM Module and pay careful attention to the wire lengths as detailed by the Ballast manufacturer. 8. 9. 10. Position the L.E.D. so that it is easily visible, unobstructed by louvres.z On completion check all connections for continuity. Also check for earth continuity and flash test (maximum voltage permitted 1.5kV). Do Not Megger Test . Connect the mains supply and check the charge L.E.D. illuminates and the lamp operates on Switched Mains. Check the lamp strikes fully on emergency after 30 minutes on charge and ensure the lamp operates and L.E.D. lights when permanent and switched mains are restored. Note: Any modifications to Certified (Kitemarked) product invalidates the Certificate and all marking relating to this must be removed. When remotely locating the emergency Module/Remote Pack ensure that the maximum cable length is 0.5m. Modules can generate up to 1.6KV at high frequency so high voltage (solid core) must be used, not Multicore Mains Cable or Alarm cable.

2. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

2.1 On completion of the installation a copy of these instructions together with the test record card(s) should be handed over to the authority responsible for maintenance and testing. Cleaning and relamping of emergency luminaires should be regularly carried out to ensure optimum photometric performance. Isolate supply to luminaire before attempting any form of servicing. Be aware that the emergency lighting inverter circuit will continue to function after isolation of the mains supply and there is an Electric Shock Risk from fluorescent lamp tube pins etc. It is recommended that sealed rechargeable batteries are replaced after each 4 years of operation in accordance with their design life. Batteries should be replaced when the luminaire no longer meets its declared duration performance. Consult the company for details of correct replacement battery packs.

3. TESTING RECOMMENDATIONS
Testing of emergency lighting should be carried out at times of least risk so as to minimise the risk of leaving premises without emergency lighting cover. Therefore it is recommended that testing should be carried out as early as possible during daylight hours or over a weekend so that sufficient time is available to recharge the luminaire batteries. If testing the luminaires by means of a remote test facility follow the instructions provided. At the end of testing ensure that all indicators (LEDs) are illuminated to show that the normal supply has been restored. For Emergency Luminaires, test results together with details of corrective actions should be recorded on the test record card provided.
