NEW FILTER INSTALLATION PFM is used as the sole medium. The weight of PFM required is 50% that of filter sand. The level of PFM in the filter is slightly lower than expected. This is tocater for the 35% expansion in the filter ned on backwashing. EXISTING FILTER INSTALLATIONS Remove 50% of the filter sand from the filter and replace with PFM. The weight of PFM required is 50% of the sand weight removed from the filter. FRESH WATER AQUACULTURE PFM has a high selectivity for ammonia, and will reduce the ammonia content in a recirculating system by more than 95%. The PFM will require regular rgeneration, and the frequency depends on the bio-load. SWERAGE & WASTEWATER PFM will significantly improve the capacity, efficiency and discharge quality of activated sludge sewerage treatment plants. PFM will also improve nitrification and reduce odours to acceptable levels. The PFM will boost bacterial flocs by increasing bacterial action per unit volume, due to the extreamly large surface area. PFM will remove heavy metals which can be recovered by regeneration.
