This is an email update featuring developments in the field of disability from around the world. Because of the importance of social justice as a basis for our work, we added this as topic into our newsletter.
2. Seventh ASEAN Senior Officials Meeting on Social Welfare and Development (7th SOMSWD) The Senior Officials of Social Welfare and Development from ASEAN Member States concluded on 22 September 2011 their 7th Meeting in Bangkok which had been convened for two days. During the Meeting, the Senior Officials discussed the strategies to implement the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Blueprint, giving special attention to the promotion of the welfare and development of vulnerable groups in the region. To this end, the Strategic Framework for 2011-2015 was endorsed. Please follow link.
3. New plan drawn to aid disabled Singapore: Peoples with disabilities in Singapore can look forward to more opportunities and programmes to better meet their needs over the next five years. A steering committee - led by the Chairman of the Centre for Enabled Living Chua Chin Kiat - has been set up to look at areas such as early intervention, employment and education. Please follow link.

Palau signed the Convention on 20-9-2011. Kyrgyzstan signed the Convention on 21-9-2011. Saint Lucia signed the Convention on 22-9-2011. Micronesia (Federated States of) signed the Convention on 23-9-2011. Luxembourg ratified the Convention on 26-9-2011 and ratified the Optional Protocol on 26-9-2011 as well.
