We wish to invite you to join a select group of about 20 students from around the world in an intensive course in Peacebuilding at the European Peace University Private University (EPU) in Stadtschlaining, Austria. The EPU is accredited by the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Research and the Austrian Accreditation Council. LOCATION: Stadtschlaining is a beautiful, small and quiet medieval town with a ca. 800-year old castle hosting a peace museum. It is situated in the foothills of the Alps, between Vienna and Graz and surrounded by hiking trails, with a hot spring and spa nearby. Classrooms and 44 single rooms with private bath are located in a new building, Haus International. Next to the castle there is a famous peace library with 30,000 books and many films, most of them in English. COURSES: All the courses are taught in English, by experts in their field from around the world. MODULES: 1st trimester (Fall): Orientation Week Module 1: Introduction to Peacebuilding Module 2: Human Rights and Minorities Module 3: Protection against Violence Module 7: Social Science Methodology (Part 1) 2nd trimester (Spring): Conflict Transformation Training Module 4: Good Governance and Political Participation Module 5: Socio-Economic and Ecological Development Module 6: Orientation and Social Relation Module 7: Social Science Methodology (Part 2) Academic Excursion 3rd trimester (Summer): Module 8: Final Module

Participation is possible in either the complete MA program, or in the Certificate Program, or in individual modules. WHO SHOULD APPLY: Students from any academic discipline interested in Peacebuilding. REQUIREMENTS: A first university degree (Bachelor Degree or international equivalent), proof of excellent knowledge of English (TOEFL test) and professional experience in a related field. For participation in individual modules no university degree is required. DEGREES: Those who successfully complete the entire program (including MA Thesis and Defence) obtain an MA Degree in Peacebuilding. Those who successfully complete one trimester obtain a Certificate Degree in Peacebuilding. Those who complete individual modules obtain a Certificate of Attendance. EUROPEAN CREDIT TRANSFER SYSTEM (ECTS): The academic workload done at EPU is measured in ECTS credit points according to the Bologna System. This system facilitates acknowledgment of academic work and degrees within the European Higher Education Area. The MA Degree in Peacebuilding counts for 75 ECTS. It is a consecutive MA Degree. This program is geared towards those who already have professional experience and would like to add academic knowledge to it. Students of this program do not aim for an academic career but will usually continue their careers in the field. COSTS: MA Program: 2 500 tuition per trimester + 1 400 accommodation* per trimester + 800 graduation fee (non-recurring). Certificate Program: 2 500 tuition per trimester + 1 400 accommodation* per trimester. Individual Module: 835 tuition + 465 accommodation per module.
*Accommodation in single rooms with private bath, W-LAN access, kitchen etc. in the student hotel Haus International (http://www.aspr.ac.at/hotels/hausint.htm). No meals included.
