Reflection

ELE 3101 is a subject learnt by us the semester three PISMP students of IPG Kampus Pulau Pinang minoring in English. This subject teaches about the literary devices and the genres available in English literature. My class, 3 SNED 1 consists of eighteen students, our lecturer divided us in to 6 groups that consist of 3 in each group and then we were given the task sheet and a short briefing on the task. My group consists of Syahidan, Usharani and myself Krishnakumar. We got to know that the task consists of four parts. The objectives of this project work is to recognise some of the genres found in English Literature, to identify the relevant short story elements used such as setting, theme, characters and plot, then based on the short stories that we read from the book we get to write a short story using the knowledge gained in part 1 and part 2 and produce a big book out of it, finally we get to reflect the project experience. In part one; we collected many articles on the literary genres and also the literary devices. We read through all the articles and managed to produce a mind map out of it. After doing this we could understand both the literary genres and devices that are available in English literature very well as we really went through he articles to make sense out of it. We managed to understand what a plot is, followed bt synopsis, the themes, moral values, the literary devices such as the onomatopoeia, simile, personification and so on. It has been a very fun learning process as we in a group managed to collaborate with each other successfully. While doing this assignment our lecturer madam.ong was very helpful and kind to sort thing out in a easier way.

In the following part we were given a short story from the story book that we were provided with. My group got the snow goose and we were very happy. We read the story more than twice to get the story into our heads and it was a beautiful story and then we had to prepare a presentation about the snow goose, synopsis, themes, plot, literary devices and so on. We did our best in our presentation and we managed to get a very good feedback from our beloved lecturer. We even found a video clip from YouTube which was very suitable and we displayed it as part of our presentation. At the end of the presentation we felt very pleased and blissful with our friends comments. We the group members really learnt what teamwork is and we did it throughout the process. This was such a learning experience and it was a gift that I got such good group members. In the final stage we had to do a big book out of the story. It was for the level 1 student. And we were very excited so planned out very carefully and we started to divide our work. I got the drawing part so i managed to draw all the cartoons in the big book. It was really appreciated by all my friends. It was very delightful that we managed to come up with a very beautiful and attractive big book which attracted many of my friends. We managed to finish our tasks successfully and we were very happy. It was an honour working with our beloved lecturer Madam.Ong Puay Cheng. I learned alot of new knowledge out of this processes. One of the best things i learnt was teamwork and the courage to do the work. I do find that the literary devices and the genres are very interesting after all and once again it was such a learning experience doing this project and I thank every one who was very supporting and helpful to us in this project especially Madam. Ong.
