e-PORTFOLIO Unit Plan

Purpose
To introduce students to Electronic Portfolios with MS PowerPoint or MS FrontPage as
the platform.
To get students to collect, select and reflect on work produced during the year.

Level
Year 1 – 13

Essential Learning Areas


All curriculum areas.

Participants
Students, Teachers, Principal, Parents.
Student work and folders saved on a local area network server

Resources
Microsoft PowerPoint or FrontPage software.
Computers in the classroom.

Description
• Students will create an e-Portfolio based on their years work.
• The portfolio is designed as a PowerPoint presentation or HTML editor with links
to various pieces of work which demonstrates the students having met or
exceeded their classroom work requirements.
• This project is designed to be implemented over a period of one school year. As
students complete work, they will update their e-portfolios.
• All curriculum areas can be covered in one form or another. (Use of Digital
Camera and Scanner to digitize work not normally carried out on a computer.)

Process
Students will:

• Use an inquiry learning model to plan their digital portfolios.


• Work through “e-Portfolio Assessment Rubric.” (attached)
• Create an e-Portfolio template using PowerPoint or FrontPage.
• Use editing tools (cut, paste, spell check, copy, undo, etc) and hyperlinks in word
processing applications.
• Scan, paste, and manipulate images.
• Plan, produce, edit, present & use multimedia products.
• Integrate & create using a variety of technological tools & sources.
• Use Portfolio checkpoint templates on a regular basis. (attached)
• Present portfolios to parents, class and teachers.
• Save portfolios to CD’s once or twice yearly to have as a record.

Evaluation
• Use assessment rubric at start of unit son students have an understanding of
requirements.
• Use portfolio checkpoint templates throughout the year.
• Student, teacher conferencing on a regular basis.
• Feedback from parents and teacher after presentation.
• Written evaluation using, Positive, Negative and Interesting.
