Prices dropped across the board to close the indices in red amidst profit taking and forced selling. However, a staggering interest witnessed in Asian Alliance Insurance boosted the turnover. An accumulation was witnessed in certain counters with increased participation of institutional or high networth investors. Banks, Finance and Insurance sector was the main contributor to the market turnover (due to Asian Alliance Insurance) and the sector index decreased by 0.03%.

Asian Alliance Insurance was the main contributor to the market turnover with two crossing of 1,500,000 shares at Rs 121. The share price increased by Rs 62 (49.48%) and closed at Rs 187.90. A mandatory offer has been made by Softlogic Capital Limited to acquire all the ordinary shares in Asian Alliance Insurance. (Richard Pieris and Company and Richard Pieris Distributors Limited have accepted to dispose 25.06% stake of Asian Alliance Insurance for Rs 450 Mn). Land and Property sector also contributed significantly to the market turnover (due to East West Properties) and the sector index increased by 0.32%. The share price of East West Properties decreased by Rs 0.40 (0.99%) and closed at Rs 39.20. Interest was witnessed in Commercial Credit while profit taking took place in HVA Foods and John Keells Holdings. The share price of Commercial Credit increased by Rs 1 (3.19%) and closed at Rs 32.20. AMW Capital Leasing announced an interim dividend of Rs 0.65 per share.
COMPANY BRIEFING THE BUSINESS Finlays Colombo (JFIN) Comprises of blending and packaging tea for export, insurance brokering, international air lines, environmental services, warehousing of tea and cold storage. Mr. C.L.K.P Jayasuiya - He is also the Chairman of the Mercantile Service Provident Society and Director of the Employees Trust Fund Board. A member of the board of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants - Sri Lankan division and Sri Lanka Accounting and Auditing Standards Monitoring Board. Recorded a profit of Rs 73.269 Mn for the six months ended 03 July 2011, which was a decline of 61% over the corresponding period of the previous year. Revenue grew by 15% to Rs 2.635 Bn. The absence of a multi-origin tea blend under company's own brand to compete with such brands remains an issue. The company aims to expand volumes in each of the business segments in order to optimize capacity.
