A senior Democratic operative who defrauded banks in order to keep his Marxist community organization afloat is behind an influential book called Stand Up Straight: How Progressives Can Win which left-wingers say has inspired them in their fight to turn America into socialist Europe. The felons name is Robert Creamer and hes a disciple of the Marxist founder of community organizing, Saul Alinsky. Hes also the husband of Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.), one of Capitol Hills most visible cheerleaders for DMV-style Big Government healthcare. Schakowsky acknowledged in a speech that the Democrats public option will put the private insurance industry out of business and lead to single-payer. Creamer founded the radical group Illinois Public Action and this makes him a hero to the left, whose members dont care that he wrote a series of bad checks to pay his salary and meet other financial demands. As Glenn Beck noted on his TV show, the left is willing to overlook Creamers sins because The ends justify the means. Creamer, Beck said, apologized for his crimes, but said he had merely been overzealous in the pursuit of a worthwhile good cause. At his sentencing, Creamer said, For the rest of my life I will continue to do whatever I can to work for social and economic justice. His wife seemed miffed that charges had been laid at all. Sounding inconvenienced, the congresswoman said she was obviously disappointed that Bobs sentence included incarceration, but we accept the judges decision and look forward to the day that we can finally put this nearly decade-long chapter behind us. Schakowsky said she was gratified that her husband has for his entire adult life devoted himself to fighting for a better future for others he has been a constant crusader for social and economic justice in this country and beyond. Creamer must have been protected by the Angel of Social Justice. Prosecutors wanted to send him up the river for 37 months but he received a mere five-month sentence and 11 months of home confinement from a Democratic judge who had ties to him. Said Beck Social and Economic justice: Those are the magic get out of jail free or early cards in the progressive world. You could kill cops and murder convenient store clerks but if you talk economic justice or write kids books while in prison, youll have a gaggle of progressives (like Van Jones) lining up to support you. Beck observed that Creamer, who recently attended the official White House dinner for the Indian prime minister, used $2.3 million in fraudulently obtained funds to cover his $100,000 annual salary and remain in his five-bedroom home. The Chicago Tribune reported (April 6, 2006) that more than 200 people provided letters of support to the court on Creamers behalf, including U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), former EPA administrator Carol Browner, White House political advisor David Axelrod, and Rev. Jesse Jackson. Creamers ties to the Democratic community were so deep that the trial judge thought about recusing himself from the case because he used to be a Democratic state representative and because his son-in-law, political consultant Peter Giangreco, had worked with Creamer and Schakowsky and had sat on the board of one of Creamers organizations. Creamers book is filled with folksy advice on how not to frighten the middle class while pushing for the radical transformation of society. Tongue-in-cheek he urges activists, for example, to listen to their mothers and stand up straight. This is straight out of Saul Alinskys playbook. Alinsky told 1960s radicals to stop scaring middle-class Americans with their appearance and behavior. He told them to cut their hair, wear jackets and ties, and not to call the police fascist pigs. David Axelrod described Creamers book as a blueprint for future progressive victories.
