A Senator from Illinois and 44th President of the United States; born in Honolulu, Hawaii, August 4, 1961; obtained early education in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Hawaii; continued education at Occidental College, Los Angeles, Calif.; received a B.A. in 1983 from Columbia University, New York City; worked as a community organizer in Chicago, Ill.; studied law at Harvard University, where he became the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review, and received J.D. in 1991; lecturer on constitutional law, University of Chicago; member, Illinois State senate 1997-2004; elected as a Democrat to the U.S. Senate in 2004, and served from January 3, 2005, to November 16, 2008, when he resigned from office, having been elected president; elected as the 44th President of the United States on November 4, 2008, and was inaugurated on January 20, 2009.

Senator Steve Thompson


Georgia District 33 Senator Steve Thompson, a Democrat, has served the 33rd senate district of Georgia since 1990. As one of two of the longest serving members of the Senate he holds the position of Dean of the Senate, and serves on the Appropriations, Finance, Banking and Financial Institutions and Transportation committees. During his distinguished years in the senate, Senator Thompson has twice chaired the Senate Transportation Committee and, on a national level, served as Vice President of the National Conference of State Legislatures where he also served as the chairman of that groups Transportation Committee.

Representative Stacey Evans Georgia House District 40 (Smyrna) Stacey Godfrey Evans was elected to the State House on November 2, 2010 and represents parts of Smyrna, Marietta, and Vinings. A life-long Georgian, she is originally from Ringgold and was the first person in her family to graduate from college. A proud "double dawg," she earned both her bachelors degree in Economics and Political Science and her law degree, cum laude, from the University of Georgia. Representative Terry Johnson Georgia House District 37 (Marietta) Terry Johnson is a lifelong resident of District 37, and a fifth generation Cobb Countian. Rep. Johnson graduated from the Real Estate Institute after attending Southern Polytechnic University in Marietta. Now in his second term, State Rep. Terry Johnson first served Cobb County in the Georgia House of Representatives in 2000. He has held positions on many committees, including Children and Youth, Human Relations and Aging, Industrial Relations, Defense & Veterans Affairs, and Natural Resources & Environment. Representative Sheila Jones Georgia House District 44 In November of 2004 Sheila Jones was elected State Representative for District 44. As a Freshman Legislator, Representative Jones secured funding in the Budget for the Adult Day Care Program at the Harriett G. Darnell Multi-purpose Facility. During her first session in the General Assembly, Representative Jones was named Freshman Legislator of the Year by the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus. Representative Alisha Thomas Morgan Georgia House District 39 (Austell) In November 2002, Alisha made history by becoming the first African American to serve in the Georgia House of Representatives from Cobb County. Alisha serves on the Education, Children and Youth, Governmental Affairs, and Health and Human Services committees. Representative David Wilkerson Georgia House District 33 (Austell) Representative David Wilkerson serves the 33rd House District in the Georgia General Assembly. His district includes portions Austell, Mableton, Powder Springs, and Smyrna in Cobb county. David serves on the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Children & Youth, and Retirement committees. Alison Bartlett Cobb County School Board, Chair (Post 7) Cobb citizens elected Alison Bartlett to Cobb County School Board in November 2008. Mrs. Bartlett felt called to serve the citizens of Cobb County and the students. Her desires are for all students to graduate high school with a strong academic foundation that will insure their ability to enter the workforce or pursue further education. David Morgan Cobb County School Board (Post 3) David L. Morgan began his first term on the Board of Education in January 2009. He is an educator and advocate for children. After spending more than a decade as a teacher, Morgan made history in November 2008 by becoming the first African-American male to be elected to the Cobb County Board of Education. Vice Chairman Woody Thompson Cobb County Board of Commissioners (District 4) Woody Thompson is a licensed real estate broker for Thompson Realty Advisors, LLC. He served as District 4 commissioner from 1997 to 2004. Thompson has also been active in numerous business and civic organizations, including the Cobb Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Cobb County Planning and Zoning Commission.
