Hello, friends and fellow MLA members, and welcome to Seattle!

During your stay in the Emerald City you will get wet. You will also get hungry. I cant do anything about the first, except recommending common sense: great outer gear fitted with a hood and shoes that dont leak. About the other matter, I can do much more. As a Seattle resident for over 20 years and a serious foodie for, at least, thirteen, I thought that I could offer you some useful tips to enhance your gastronomic happiness during your visit. Enjoy! Harry Vlez Quiones Professor of Hispanic Studies University of Puget Sound Downtown: Seattle is a city of neighborhoods and this applies to the food scene. Coffee!!
Coffee Bars all over town: Coffee is huge in the Pacific Northwest. Some places offer sublime pulls but most dont! Here are the ones the consistently do it for me! DOWNTOWN I am sure there other places other than Caff darte and Font, but I am talking about what I know. Caffe d'arte www: http://www.caffedarte.com/ 1625 2nd Ave (between Pine St. & Stewart St.) Not my favorite anymore, but still lovely. Font WWW: http://fontecoffee.com/ On 1st Ave. right across the Seattle Art Museum this small establishment offers the best coffee downtown. CAPITOL HILL There are plenty of good choices here: Analog WWW: http://www.analogcoffee.com/ The newest addition to the coffee bar scene on the Hill is also one of the very best! Way retro, as their name suggests. They use Herkimer beans for a smooth, yet flavorful cup. Bauhaus WWW: http://www.bauhauscoffee.net/ A staple since 1993, Bauhaus has a glorious past and it still does a decent job. Caff Vita WWW: http://www.caffevita.com/index.php?page=capitol_hill When Caff Vita took over the old Caf Paradiso store on Pike, I was sad. I still am, but their coffee is pretty darned good. Stumptown WWW: http://stumptowncoffee.com/ This Portland, OR concern has two stores on Capitol Hill. The one on 12th Ave. by Caf Presse has the most serious baristas, I think.
