The Water Division of the Public Works Department is located in the County offices 26 Park Ave. Burford. We can be contacted by telephone at 519-449-2451 or toll free at 1-888-250-2295, via email at publicworks@brant.ca, and through the internet at www.brant.ca.
Where does municipal water come from?
The County of Brant obtains its Municipal water from wells. Groundwater is pumped from the aquifer and then pipes deliver the water to homes within the Municipality. Groundwater comes from rain, snow, sleet, and hail that soak into the ground. the roadway. A main break can cause the loss of substantial amounts of water and damage the roadway as well.

If I have concerns about unusual taste, odour or colour of my drinking water, who can I call?
If you obtain your water from a private well contact the Brant County Health Unit at 519-753-4937. If you obtain your water from the municipal system watermain repairs, construction, flushing, or other maintenance work in your area can cause some rust and scale products which normally adhere to the inside of the watermain to break away. This sediment disturbance may cause water to appear dirty. Open fire hydrants can also cause this temporary inconvenience. Though this discoloured water is safe, it is unappealing, and it can stain your laundry. If this condition occurs in your system, allow a cold tap to run for five to ten minutes until the water clears. If the condition persists or you wish to speak to someone in regards to water quality, contact the County of Brant Water Division. If you experience an internal problem such as a broken water pipe in your home or building, you can shut the water off at your main shut-off valve usually located in the basement. If the shut-of valve is broken or you are unable to turn it off, contact the Water Division to shut off the water at the curb stop. It is the homeowners responsibility to repair the inside shut-off valve. Should you ever notice a continuous flow of water in the road please report it as soon as possible. Watermain breaks may surface as a leak on

How do I know if my water meter is reading properly? Could there be a leak?

If you suspect you may have a leak, turn off any water consuming appliances inside and outside of your home. Read your meter. If the test dial (triangle) on your meter is spinning, water is flowing through the meter. You may also want to monitor your meter reads overnight. Take a reading before you go to bed and a reading first thing in the morning before you use any water. If the numbers have changed, this would indicate that there is a leak somewhere in your home. Remember that toilets are the number one source of leaks! Should your recorded water use change suddenly for no obvious reason (lawn watering, more people in the home, away for a long period of time), report this to Brant County Power Billing Office so that it can be investigated. Should you have specific questions regarding billings and collections for . water or wastewater, you can contact Brant County Power at 519-442-2215

www.brant.ca

Are there any Water Conservation measures in place?

There is a water restriction By-law. The County By-Law restricts outdoor water use to every other day between the hours of 7 am to 9 am and 7 pm to 9 pm. Even-numbered municipal addresses are permitted to water on even-numbered days. Odd-numbered municipal addresses are permitted to water on odd-numbered days. There are some exceptions for new planting. For more details you can call the Water Division
