COURSE SYLLABUS

CLED 520
THE LIFE OF THE LEADER COURSE DESCRIPTION This course will focus upon the life of the leader and how the emotional, ethical, mental, moral, psychological, and spiritual wellbeing of the leader has an effect upon leadership effectiveness. Significant personal reflection will be undertaken in an effort to help the leader recognize the unique personal dimensions that hinder personal effectiveness as a leader. RATIONALE A persons Christian spiritual development and human development will impact life and vocation. As a result, the leader should have a clear understanding of how those areas affect life and vocation. An effective leader will integrate successfully the areas of Christian spirituality and human development into a positive Christian leadership style.

MEASURABLE LEARNING OUTCOMES Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: A. B. C. D. E. F. Identify human development issues which affect life and vocation. Appraise which human development issues have personally influenced his or her life and vocation. Integrate biblical theology and human development toward effective Christian leadership. Distinguish the various facets of Christian spirituality. Evaluate personal spiritual strengths and weaknesses in order to fortify the weakness and utilize the strengths as they relate to Christian leadership. Identify, evaluate, and discuss the aspects of theological development, spiritual development, and human development that have influenced the life and vocation of a famous Christian leader.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS AND ASSIGNMENTS A. B. Textbook readings and lecture presentations/notes Discussion Board Forums (3) In Modules/Weeks 1, 3, and 5, the student will be required to post original Discussion Board threads as specified in the respective modules. The student will also be required to reply to at least two other classmates original threads the following weekin Modules/Weeks 2, 4, and 6. C. Personal Assessments (2) The student will be required to complete two personal assessment papers. Each paper will be 45 pages in length. The first writing assignment will assess the students integration of theology, human development, and leadership based upon the learning from the required Estep text. It will be due at the end of Module/Week 4. The second writing assignment will assess the students integration of Christian spirituality and leadership based upon the learning from the required Boa text. It will be due at the end of Module/Week 7. D. Reading Quizzes (2) The student will take two short reading quizzes in Modules/Weeks 2 and 6. The closed-book quizzes will not only evaluate the students reading comprehension, but will also serve as a guide to future reading. Students will have 30 minutes to answer the 10 true/false questions in each quiz. E. Leadership Assessment The student will complete a leadership assessment paper that comprises 3 parts: outline (Module/Week 5), rough draft (Module/Week 7), and the final, which should be 810 pages in length (Module/Week 8). The purpose of the paper is to

identify, define, evaluate, and discuss the aspects of theological development, spiritual development, and human development that have influenced the life and vocation of a famous Christian leader. Currently, the assessment will come from the required Myra textbook. VI. COURSE GRADING AND POLICIES A.
