GAME PLAN

Patriots Overview

How They Match Up Players to Watch

Head Coach Bill Belichick made some significant additions to a team coming off a 14-2 season, and perhaps the most significant was that of defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth.

his isnt anything we havent seen many times before, but the New England Patriots came into the regular season as one of the favorites to represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. The presumption was based on New England returning every major contributor from a team that went a league-best 14-2 in the 2010 regular season and, just as importantly, the presence of quarterback Tom Brady and Head Coach Bill Belichick. If anything, the Patriots appear to have even more talent than they did last season thanks to the summertime additions of big-name players like Albert Haynesworth, Shaun Ellis, Andre Carter and Chad Ochocinco. Its almost as though many think the biggest question around the Patriots is whether theyll be able to snap their three-game playoff losing streak come January. Last years 27-20 loss to the Jets in the AFC divisional round was particularly disappointing, considering the Patriots record and the fact they entered the playoffs with eight consecutive victories with four of the last five by margins of 42, 29, 31 and 31 points. Heres the thing, though, before anybody

decides to crown the Patriots prematurely: New England had a lot of things go its way en route to that 14-2 record and might not be so fortunate this time around. The one stat that stands out is the fact that New England, despite winning 12 more than it lost, gave up more yards than it gained. The Patriots also allowed more first downs than they recorded. New England made that up by coming up with 38 takeaways (25 interceptions and 13 fumble recoveries) and scoring a team-record nine touchdowns on returns (4 interceptions, 2 kickoffs, 2 fumbles, 1 punt). The Patriots also played error-free football on offense, setting an NFL record with only 10 turnovers the entire season. The previous record for a 16-game season was shared by the 2008 Dolphins and New York Giants. New England looked scary good in the first two games of the 2011 preseason before they were handled by the Detroit Lions in the third and perhaps most significant preseason contest. Whether you consider them Super Bowl favorites or not, there appears little doubt the Patriots once again will be a force in the AFC East. Recent history says so. New England has won at least 10 games

each of the last eight seasons, including three 14-2 finishes and the 16-0 mark of 2007. As long as Brady remains as efficient as he has been, the New England offense should remain among the most potent in the league. The addition of Ochocinco can only help a receiving corps that didnt see much of a drop-off after the controversial Randy Moss was traded to Minnesota last October. To help the running game, the Patriots spent second- and third-round picks on Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley, respectively. On defense, the large number of interceptions in 2010 helped make up for the lack of a pass rush. The Patriots produced only 25 sacks as a team last season, with Mike Wright the team leader with a modest 5.5. The Patriots are counting on the highly talented but equally controversial Haynesworth to become a force up front, and there were whispers in August that his arrival might mean a greater use of 4-3 fronts. The Patriots have other stars on defense, such as linebacker Jerod Mayo and cornerback Devin McCourty, but its the offense that has made this team stand out in recent years and its likely to be the same story in 2011.

REGGIE BUSH

Players to Watch Tale of the Tape Quick Hitters

KENDALL LANGFORD

The Dolphins new-look running game gets unveiled for real tonight, and Reggie Bush could make himself an instant fan favorite with a big performance against the Patriots. The offensive line, which again will be anchored by left tackle Jake Long, could make his life easier by opening some holes. New England comes in with somewhat of an unknown defense because of the significant changes made this summer. In particular, it will be interesting to see how they utilize Albert Haynesworth. Another player to watch is Vince Wilfork, who has made the Pro Bowl as a nose tackle but has lined up at times at defensive end against the Dolphins. Regardless of where or when those two play, they need to be blocked.
VINCE WILFORK

The Dolphins run defense

The Dolphins run offense

Dealing with Tom Brady is difficult enough, but the Dolphins defense also has to make sure to stop the New England running game. That was a problem in the two meetings last season when BenJarvus Green-Ellis averaged 78 yards with a touchdown in each game. Green-Ellis again figures to be the focal point of the Pats running game, although they have other options, such as Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk and rookie Stevan Ridley. The Dolphins expect to be a force against the run all season, and it starts with the stout defensive line of Paul Soliai, Kendall Langford and Randy Starks.

SEAN SMITH

BRANDON MARSHALL

The Dolphins new approach on offense produced some big plays in the passing game in the preseason and a few of those tonight certainly would help the cause. Wide receiver Brandon Marshall looks primed for a big year and should be targeted often in the opener. Also keep an eye on Davone Bess, who scored in each of the two games against the Patriots last season. Reggie Bush also figures to be a big factor in the passing game. Quarterback Chad Henne will be looking to continue the strong work he began in the preseason, but he needs to avoid interceptions. New England came up with five of those in the two meetings last season, including two by linebacker Rob Ninkovich in the game at Miami.
ROB NINKOVICH

The Dolphins pass offense

The Dolphins secondary begins the season with about as tough a test as it could ask for, going up against Tom Brady and company. Randy Moss no longer is part of the equation, but Brady still has plenty of quality targets, such as Wes Welker, Deion Branch, Chad Ochocinco and tight end Rob Gronkowski. The latter had a huge game against the Dolphins in last years season finale, and hes a guy the Dolphins must watch. Vontae Davis and Sean Smith clearly have the ability to cover the Patriots receivers outside, but they also could help the Dolphins chances of winning if they can come up with a pick (or two). It also wouldnt hurt if Cameron Wake or Jason Taylor could get to Brady a couple of times.

Special Teams
The importance of special teams became pretty obvious when the Dolphins and Patriots met last season. The kicking game was the biggest reason the Dolphins went from leading at halftime to losing big in the game at Sun Life Stadium, and a punt return for a touchdown right before halftime was a crushing blow in the season finale at New England. Maybe this time it will be the Dolphins who come up with the big plays on special teams. The Dolphins certainly appear in great shape with kicker Dan Carpenter and punter Brandon Fields, who was spectacular in the preseason. New England has dangerous returners in Brandon Tate and Julian Edelman, along with a very good placekicker in Stephen Gostkowski. After teams experimented with their kickoffs in the preseason in light of the new rule, dont be surprised to see both teams try to kick off as deep as possible to get touchbacks and force the opponent to start at its 20-yard line.

Patriots Edition
The Dolphins and Patriots have met in a season opener six previous times. New England won the first three of those matchups and the Dolphins took the last three, including a 24-10 victory in 1996 the last such meeting.

The 2010 meeting at Sun Life Stadium turned on special teams and turnovers, with the Dolphins losing by 27 points despite outgaining New England 400-265.

Only one of the last 10 meetings was decided by less than 10 points, that being the Dolphins 22-21 victory in Miami late in the 2009 season.

Dan Marinos 473 yards against New England in 1994 remains the highest passing total on opening day since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger. Irving Fryars 211 receiving yards in that game is the second-best opening-day showing since the merger behind Anquan Boldins 217 yards for Arizona in 2003.

Jason Taylor has sacked New Englands Tom Brady a total of 10.5 times, more than any other quarterback he has faced. Second on the list is Drew Bledsoe (6.5).

In 18 career games against the Dolphins, Tom Brady has passed for 300 or more yards only three times, but has been held under 200 yards 10 times, including both meetings last season.

story lines
The Dolphins defense gave up a season-high 502 total yards. Chad Henne and Tyler Thigpen alternated at quarterback, with Thigpen leading the only touchdown drive in the fourth quarter. Brandon Marshalls 97 yards receiving helped him reach the 1,000-yard mark for the season. The Dolphins only takeaway of the game came when Kendall Langford stripped Danny Woodhead on a first-quarter running play and Paul Soliai recovered at the New England 34-yard line. The Dolphins were shut out in the first half despite having the ball in New England territory on three different occasions in the first half. Those three drives ended with a missed field goal, a punt and a fumble. The Dolphins offense had the ball for only 5:34 in the second half.

In this column for Playbook, Head Coach Tony Sparano looks at tonights opener against the Patriots and also talks about the importance of re-establishing a winning tradition at home.
Q. A 1-7 home record last year had to be difficult to accept. How important is it in these first two home games (New England and Houston) to rid yourself of that memory?
TS: When the season ended last season I had time to look at everything. I sat back and analyzed my team. Im the CEO of this team. When you are in charge, you have to sometimes make hard decisions and that could mean deviating from some of the things that even you believe in. If its best for your team, you do it. It was a long process for me. Im a fact guy. I had to find the facts and I went through it all and found the facts. I hired the appropriate people and got some of the pieces in place and now were ready to get going with a more aggressive, attacking approach in everything we do.

TS: Its really important. One of the things I have spoken to this team about is tradition. There has been a long tradition here of playing well and winning at home. We approached our preseason game against Carolina that way, to start a new tradition at home and take care of our home turf. In 2009, Sparano accomplished the difficult task of balancing the need to add youth to his squad while keeping the Dolphins in the thick of the playoff hunt. Like he did with quarterback Chad Henne, who won seven of his 13 overall starts in his first season seeing regular action under center, Sparano furthered the growth of fellow second-year players Davone Bess, who led the team in receptions, Jake Long, who was named to his second consecutive Pro Bowl squad, defensive ends Kendall Langford and Phillip Merling, as well as Pro Bowl kicker Dan Carpenter. In 2008, Sparanos first year as the Dolphins head coach, he guided the team to a single-season turnaround matched just once in NFL history. Taking over a 1-15 squad from a year earlier, he led the Dolphins to an 11-5 record and the AFC East title. His 10-game improvement has been achieved only one other time in league annals, in 1999 when the Indianapolis Colts went from 3-13 to 13-3.

eff Ireland was named the Dolphins general manager on Jan. 2, 2008. He joined the club after a seven-year stint (2001-07) with the Dallas Cowboys, including his last three seasons there as the teams vice president of college and pro scouting. In his role with the Dolphins, Ireland not only is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the college and pro personnel departments, but also helps manage the teams salary cap and player contracts. He supervises all scouting efforts that relate to the college draft, free agency, the Canadian Football League, and personnel of the other 31 NFL teams. Ireland works hand in hand with Head Coach Tony Sparano in implementing a personnel plan to build the Dolphins into a championship-caliber team. In Irelands three seasons in Miami, he already has seen some of his acquisitions play a key role in the development of the team. Last season, Jake Long made the Pro Bowl for the third consecutive year, while Cameron Wake and Randy Starks blossomed into Pro Bowl performers for the first time. Veteran acquisitions such as Brandon Marshall, Karlos Dansby and Richie Incognito were major contributors to the Dolphins, while rookie draft choice Koa Misi was a starter for the team all season. Following the 2010 season, Ireland significantly upgraded the teams offense through the college draft.

Dolphins vs. Patriots 35

As the 2011 season kicks off, the Dolphins are prime-time performers again. Tonights game against the New England Patriots marks the 77th time the Dolphins have played on Monday night, more than any other franchise in the NFL. The Dolphins have a 40-36 record on Monday night, with 50 of the games played in South Florida. And those 50 have produced some of the most memorable Monday night games the league has seen, whether it be the unforgettable victory over the unbeaten Bears in 1985, the Dan Marino-John Elway duel in 1998 or the thriller against the Jets just two seasons ago.

1980
Uwe von Schamanns overtime field goal helped the Dolphins beat New England, but the big story of the night came when Howard Cosell announced on the ABC telecast that former Beatle John Lennon has been assassinated in New York.

1981
Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworskis problems on this night involved more than trying to escape Kim Bokamper and the other Dolphins pass rushers; he also had to deal with an Orange Bowl crowd that got so loud that he pulled away from the line of scrimmage on several occasions because of the noise.

1984
Mark Clayton (left) and Dan Marino capped off a record-breaking season with a 28-21 victory over Dallas.

1985
Mark Claytons touchdown (right) helped Miami stop the 12-0 Chicago Bears bid to match the 1972 Dolphins perfect season.

1991
Bryan Cox challenged the entire Cincinnati sideline after kicker Pete Stoyanovich was blindsided after a kickoff. Cox and the Dolphins got the last laugh that night, 37-13.

1986
The Jets came to the Orange Bowl with a 10-1 record, but Lorenzo Hampton and the Dolphins humbled them to the tune of 45-3.

MVR children get a big reading reward

he Miami Dolphins hosted pizza parties on two consecutive Sundays for children who won the Dolphins Most Valuable Reader Program through the Summer Reading Program at Broward and MiamiDade County libraries. As part of the program, these children were required to read a specified number of books over the summer and complete a reading log. The kids were then entered into a raffle and 10 winners were drawn from each county. The children and their families received a VIP pass to watch the Miami Dolphins practice. Miami Dolphins alumnus O.J. McDuffie, T.D. and Dolphins cheerleaders came by to congratulate the MVR winners. Members of the Miami Dolphins Womens Organization served pizza and dessert donated by Papa Johns for the groups to enjoy. After the practices, Dolphins players, including Jake Long, Chad Henne and Reggie Bush, signed autographs for the kids. This year the Dolphins will continue to work on the Most Valuable Reader Program throughout the year. This yearround initiative will provide incentives for children to read, in exchange for the opportunity to attend a Dolphins home game. The Dolphins have donated more than 10,000 game tickets to Broward and Miami- Dade County libraries for the two preseason games as part of the Summer Reading program.

MVR Program winners got the VIP treatment at practice, where they were treated to pizza and spent some time with players like Chad Henne and Jake Long.

Dolphins Score Big With Kick-Off Luncheon

By ANDY KENT

heres nothing like an intimate lunch with some close friends, especially when those friends happen to play football for the Miami Dolphins. A select group of sponsors, season-ticket holders and prospective season-ticket holders enjoyed the company of Head Coach Tony Sparano, General Manager Jeff Ireland, CEO Mike Dee and all 80 players at The Miami Dolphins 2011 Kick-Off Luncheon on Aug. 31. All the net proceeds were directed to the Miami Dolphins Foundation. First of all, it was a wonderful event, said Allan Young, Chairman of the Board for South Florida Ford, who was joined at his table by starting quarterback Chad Henne. Its always great when you get your corporate sponsors and some of your fan base together right before the season to get things kicked off. I thought it was interesting and I thought it was fun and all in all it was a great time. Once all the guests were seated, the team was introduced one by one, beginning with equipment manager Joe Cimino and continuing with the rest of the coaching and training staff. Then the players were introduced in numerical order, with Ireland and Sparano walking in last. Dee handled the official welcome and tossed to a video presentation showcasing the organizations community relations efforts. He then turned over the microphone to emcee and Dolphins radio play-by-play voice Jimmy Cefalo. A handful of lucky guests who found a Dolphins logo under the saucer holding their coffee mugs won Dolphins footballs they could use to get autographs. There was a highlight video of the Dolphins preseason games and some entertaining moments from practice, as well as a recap of the teams 2011 draft. That was followed by a series of Q&As conducted by Cefalo and Jesse Agler, host of The Finsiders drive-time radio show. Among the players taking the stage were Henne, wide receivers Brandon Marshall and Davone Bess, left tackle Jake Long, tight end Anthony Fasano, linebackers Karlos Dansby, Kevin Burnett, Cameron Wake and Jason Taylor and defensive linemen Randy Starks and Kendall Langford. Before the Q&A sessions, Dansby was announced as the winner of the 2010 Don Shula Leadership Award. Finally, Sparano took center stage and delivered a riveting and inspirational speech encouraging everyone to give his or her utmost support

Watch Coach Sparanos inspiring luncheon speech

to this team. He promised a team that will play hard and play to win, and before he spoke the guests were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at Sparano miked up on the practice field and fending off reporters at press conferences. There were also entertaining highlights of his on-field reactions during games. That was powerful and impactful. Im ready to go out and run wind sprints myself after Coachs speech and his reach-out to the fans about how important they are to the teams success, Dee said. Those who were here will cer-

tainly walk away with a different impression maybe than the one they walked in with. There was also a benefit to the guests on hand of getting to know the players a little better on a personal front and seeing them without their helmets. It was great, Dee said. Listen, you can have a big party in a small place or a small party in a big place. I prefer the former, not the latter, and I think everybody here got a chance to press flesh with the players and hear from the players. I saw players talking at the tables during the event and thats what this event is about. Its a way to connect those who support the Miami Dolphins Foundation with our team, so from that point of view I think today was a tremendous success.

CHAD HENNE
Current star Who is the toughest defensive cornerback youve faced?
Henne: Darrelle Revis because of his cover skills. I think hes smart, he understands the routes, he understands splits and he has really good recovery. Hes kind of the full package because he can match up with the small guy and he can match up against the big guy. Its tough to throw against him. Griese: There were a lot of them, and I see them every year when I go up to Canton (Ohio) for the Hall of Fame. But Id have to say Mel Blount of the Pittsburgh Steelers because he was tall and very physical. Willie Davis of the Oakland Raiders was good because he was quick and smart, so those two have to be up there.

just see it all unfold when youre back there and everybodys out there. Griese: Probably my favorite route was the max route, which was a 6-yard slant. Howard Twilley caught a lot of them and Paul Warfield caught a lot of them, so I liked to throw that one. Of course any running play to (Larry) Csonka was always a good option.

What was your most memorable pass?

Henne: Id have to go with the touchdown pass against the Jets on Monday Night Football to Ted Ginn Jr. (a 53-yard strike as Ginn got behind Revis). Griese: It was in the AFC Championship Game in Pittsburgh in 1972. I had been hurt the last half of the season and Coach Shula came to me at halftime and told me I was starting the second half. We were trailing and it was a critical third down and I hit Warfield on a slant pass that gained 52 yards and we started to roll from there. Steelers linebacker Andy Russell knew we loved that slant and it was job to not let Warfield get inside of him, so Warfield made a move to the outside and Russell bit, allowing Warfield to get behind him for the big gain. If we dont hit that pass, I think we might have lost that game.

What quarterback did you look up to coming up, and why?

Henne: I was always a big Joe Montana guy watching him and evaluating him. But in college I guess it was more Tom (Brady) because coming from Michigan and learning a little bit of what he did at New England and just watching him win Super Bowls had an impact. His leadership on offense is a big key. Griese: I grew up in Evansville, Ind., and we didnt have DirecTV back then, so the games we got were either Chicago or Cleveland. Otto Graham was the quarterback for the Browns then, so I looked up to him, but as I got a little older it was Joe Namath. I went to my first AFL All-Star Game and Namath and I were the only two quarterbacks there. He took me under his wing and showed me the ropes, so Namath and Otto were my two QBs.

What is your best asset as a quarterback?

Henne: I guess everybody would say my arm strength and being able to make all the throws and putting the ball where it needs to be. Griese: Well, it wasnt a big, powerful or strong arm. It was probably my accuracy. I was very accurate and a good decision-maker and I could make plays. I was instinctive, where if you show me something I could be accurate. And intelligence, of course, was one of my strong suits.
Dolphins vs. Patriots 59

What is your favorite play to call or run?

Henne: To be honest, I think weve done a really good job in our empty sets, where we spread everybody out and have five guys out in the routes. Knowing where to go with the football quickly is exciting that way because you

1972 TEAM

erfection. Its a word that has only been uttered once in the history of the National Football League. The 1972 Miami Dolphins are the only team to have a perfect season and win the Super Bowl, or NFL Championship. A few have come close. The Bears went 13-0 during the 1934 regular season, only to lose 3013 in the Championship Game to the Giants. Eight years later, the Bears won all 11 regular season games but fell to the Redskins in the title game. Four other teams in NFL history were unbeaten, but not untied. The perfect team, led by Coach Don Shula, went 14-0 in the regular season and won all three postseason games, including Super Bowl VII against the Washington Redskins, to finish 17-0. Many would argue that the 1972 Dolphins are the best sports team ever; proponents would certainly point to the unblemished record to back that up statistically. As Hall of Fame fullback Larry Csonka said, "Perfection ends a lot of arguments." The 1972 Dolphins team was led on the ground by running backs Csonka and Mercury Morris, who became the first teammates to each rush for 1,000 yards in a season. Paul Warfield led the receivers, averaging over 20 yards per catch on 29 receptions. The offensive line included future Hall of Fame members Jim Langer and Larry Little and Pro Bowler Norm Evans. The 1972 Dolphins defensive unit, called the No-Name Defense because of the anonymous names on the unit as compared to the offense, was the leagues best that year. It was led by future Hall of Fame linebacker Nick Buoniconti as well as Pro Bowl defensive end Bill Stanfill, nose tackle Manny Fernandez, and safeties Dick Anderson and Jake Scott. The road to perfection certainly did not come without speed bumps along the way. Future Hall of Fame quarterback Bob Griese sustained a broken ankle in Week 5 when he was sacked by San Diego Chargers defensive tackle Ron East. That left matters up to 38-year-old backup Earl

Morrall to take charge and lead the team for the rest of the season. Griese returned to the field as a substitute during the AFC Championship Game at Pittsburgh and then started for Miami in Super Bowl VII. Washington, the NFC champion, went into the Super Bowl as a three-point favorite despite the fact that the Dolphins had not lost a game all year. But Miami soon had the Redskins down 140 and seemed to be on their way to a dominant victory. Then, in one of the strangest plays in Super Bowl history, Garo Yepremians field goal attempt was blocked. Instead of just covering the ball, he tried to pick it up and throw it. The ball slipped out of his hand and was batted into the arms of Redskins cornerback Mike Bass, who ran the ball back 49 yards for a touchdown, cutting the lead in half. Fortunately for Yepremian, the Dolphins were able to hold on to win the game, 14-7, and finish off their undefeated season with a Super Bowl championship.

For their perfect moment in time, the 1972 Dolphins team was inducted into the Dolphins Honor Roll on Nov. 16, 1992 at halftime of a home game against the Buffalo Bills.

Top 10 Games at Sun Life Stadium

September 23, 2001 Miami 18, Oakland 15

Only seconds remained when New York native Jay Fiedler dove for the end zone, holding the ball above his head like a rugby player and skidding across the goal line for the winning touchdown as the crowd erupted. This was a return to normal at least as the Miami Dolphins define it. Patriotic pregame pageantry produced plenty of cheers, but the biggest roar was reserved for Fiedlers 2-yard touchdown scramble with five seconds left to help Miami beat the Oakland Raiders, 18-15. The resumption of the NFL season following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks meant a day of mixed emotions especially for Fiedler, who grew up in Long Island. My brother lost a close friend, he said. And I know a lot of people who were very close to people that were lost. So it was good to play a game, and even better to win it. Fiedler overcame two costly interceptions, directing a 10-play, 80-yard drive in the final 1:41. You couldnt get a better ending, teammate Zach Thomas said. It was great for the fans especially, for everybody to go home happy and get back to normal. An emotional pregame show paid tribute to victims of the Sept. 11 attack with prayer, songs and chants of U-S-A, U-S-A. The ceremony prompted cheers and tears, with the only jeers reserved for the Raiders when they were introduced. You had to wipe the tears away and play football, Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor said.

Jay Fiedler celebrates his game-winning touchdown as the Dolphins rallied for a dramatic victory over Oakland on a day of national pride.

Andy Cohen column:

From the pages of Dolphin Digest

Bill Daley game story:

First he lost the game and was brought to his knees, a quarterback surely on the verge of getting booed out of the stadium. Then he won the game and has never stood taller, his pressure-packed, two-minute masterpiece giving the Miami Dolphins the most improbable of victories. Jay Fiedler showed us so much in those final, heart-stopping moments against the Oakland Raiders.

It was a perfect drive in so many ways, but perhaps what was most impressive was that of the four major contributors to the drive, three were new faces this season two draft choices, a free agent acquisition. The other was an old standby. The draftees were Chris Chambers and Travis Minor, the free agent Dedric Ward and the old standby Oronde Gadsden.

This issue: DARIUS RUCKER, musician

How did a musician from South Carolina become such a devoted fan of the Miami Dolphins?
Rucker: I remember I was 5 years old and it was the Miami-Dallas Super Bowl and the whole family was sitting around watching it and everybody was pulling for Dallas, so I decided I was going to pull for the Dolphins. So I started pulling for them that day and the next year I started playing football and they went undefeated, so I really began to like them and Ive been a Dolphins fan ever since. Those were great teams. Rucker: That was awesome. After the show the coach came up and gave me a wallet that I still have. They were great guys and Im a Dolphins fan, so to have the Dolphins coach and GM come out to see me before my show, that was huge. I was just honored that they would come out and say, hey. I think they were already aware I was a huge Dolphins fan and Im not ashamed to say that Im a fan and thats my team.

What was it like for you to shoot that music video with Dan Marino for the Hootie & The Blowfish single I Only Want To Be With You? And then also perform it for him at his retirement bash?
Rucker: The reason we did the video was

Did you play football in high school or before high school, and what position did you play?
years ago. Ive been bleeding aqua since I was 5. Even the bad years, I would only play the Dolphins on Madden. Im a pretty good player on Madden, but I will never switch teams.
Rucker: I played football up until high school and then by high school I realized that I was a little small and Id need to go a different route. I played quarterback and when you were 6 or 7 you played a little bit of everything but the last four or five years I played quarterback. And I did actually wear No. 13, believe it or not, because 13 is my lucky number. Thats why I think I love him so much because not only was he the Dolphins quarterback but I was grateful he wore my number, too.

because they asked us what we wanted to do for our next video, so I told them I wanted to meet Dan Marino. So we came up with a way for me to do that and that was one of the best days of my life. Hes still my favorite player of all time and that day was a great day. I wanted to catch every pass I could and I was basically a 6-year-old kid running around wanting to catch everything he threw but they made me act it out to where I kept dropping the ball.

Do you have a specific Dolphins game that stands out in your memory as your favorite, and why?
Rucker: If I was going to say just one game it was the game in Indianapolis when Marino broke the record (for career TD passes). There was a picture of him shaking Coach Shulas hand and I was standing probably 10 feet from where they were on the field. That was amazing.

What was it like to sing the national anthem before some Dolphins games?
Rucker: Ive gotten to do it a few times down there and its awesome. I mean, to be on the home field with my team singing the anthem and then theyre about to play a game, thats just awesome. Footballs my thing and this is the time of year for me. I cant wait for football season.

When did you get the tattoo of the Dolphins logo, and how devout of a fan were you at the time?
Rucker: I got that tattoo at least 15-16

What was it like to meet Tony Sparano, Jeff Ireland and their wives last year before your show with Rascal Flatts in West Palm Beach at the Cruzan Amphitheater?

WHO AM I?

I was born on February 3, 1989 in Little Rock, Ark. My father, Charles, played college football at Arkansas. I attended Central High School in Little Rock where I played running back and safety. In college at Tulsa I saw action at seven different positions, including tailback, fullback, tight end, split receiver, "wildcat" quarterback, linebacker and defensive end.
