FELLOWS IN THE NEWS Magsaysay Awards Announced Each year six people or organizations are named joint winners of the prestigious Magsaysay award and this year two of them are Ashoka Fellows, Tri Mumpuni and Harish Hande. Indonesian social worker Tri Mumpuni was recognized because her IBEKA foundation built 60 small power plants harnessing the energy of water stored in dams to bring electricity to half a million people. Indian engineer Harish Hands Solar Electric Light Co. has tapped the suns energy to light up 120,000 households and is now one of the countrys largest solar technology producers. The Global Fund supports organizations that demonstrate a commitment to women's equality and female human rights.
