THE TWELTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST

PRAYER UPON ENTERING CHURCH
Almighty God, You are just and merciful. You judge justly when You punish sin and You act mercifully when You forgive sin. Grant that I seek to do Your will and live in the confident assurance of sins forgiven for Jesus sake. Further grant that I do not take Your love and forgiveness for granted but respond to these blessings by seeking to live my life for You. I pray this in Jesus holy name. Amen

WELCOME
Welcome to everyone gathered here this morning. It is great to have you with us for this time of worship! As we gather for this Service we trust Gods promise found in our Gospel reading for today to be with us. He comes to us through His Holy Word bringing us forgiveness and life. Then in response to these blessings we offer to Him our thanks and praise. It is our prayer that through Gods Word sung, read and preached you may know more of His love for you. If you have any questions about Grace Congregation please speak with our Pastor. Children are welcome in our Service and will be invited to come forward for the Childrens Message. You may accompany them if you would like. A nursery for infants and toddlers is located downstairs for those who have need. Restrooms are also downstairs in this building or across the bridge on this floor level before entering the fellowship hall. If you have any questions please ask one of our greeters or ushers. Please come and worship with us again!

HOLY COMMUNION
Holy Communion will be celebrated in the 10:45 Service today. In this sacrament we receive Christs very body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. Those who are not members of Grace are asked to speak with our Pastor before partaking of this sacrament so that the unity of faith might be established. Thank you for honoring this request.

AS WE GATHER
Today we hear how our citizenships in Gods kingdom and our nation are united. The prophet Ezekiel is called as a watchman to warn his fellow citizens, as are all Christians. St. Paul urges obedience to the ruling authorities (whom we have elected) and then reminds us that loving each other fulfills Gods Law. Jesus teaches us to care for children and to confront those who have given in to temptation. We are called to define sin according to Gods Law and subsequently offer His grace and forgiveness according to the Gospel. As we reflect upon how well we accomplish what has been given to us, we realize that we truly need to hear the Gospel.

NEXT WEEKS READINGS - The appointed readings for next Sunday, September 11th, The Thirteenth Sunday after Pentecost: The Old Testament Reading: Genesis 50:15-21, The Epistle Reading: Romans 14:1-12, and The Gospel Reading: Matthew 18:21-35.

Exhortation

1 John 1:89

P How great are your works, O LORD! C Your thoughts are very deep! P It is good to give thanks to the LORD, C to sing praises to your name, O Most High; P to declare your steadfast love in the morning, C and your faithfulness by night, P to the music of the lute and the harp, C to the melody of the lyre. P For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work; C at the works of your hands I sing for joy.

P If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. C But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Silence for reflection on God's Word and for self-examination.

Confession of Sins
P Let us then confess our sins to God our Father. C Most merciful God, we confess that we are by nature sinful and unclean. We have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what

Holy Gospel
P The Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew, the eighteenth chapter.

Matthew 18:120

He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life T everlasting. Amen

The reading of the Holy Gospel. P This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Nicene Creed (10:45)

C I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified,

Proper Preface
P It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who on this day overcame death and the grave and by His glorious resurrection opened to us the way of everlasting life. Therefore with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying:

Prayer of Thanksgiving
P Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C Amen

Lord's Prayer

John 20:19

P Our Lord Jesus Christ, on the night when He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and gave it to the disciples and said: Take, eat; this is My T body, which is given for you. This do in remembrance of Me. In the same way also He took the cup after supper, and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink of it, all of you; this cup is the new testament in My T blood, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.
